No dates yet for Mutharika, Magufuli talks over Lake Malawi dispute
Malawi President Peter Mutharika and his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli are yet to be communicated on the proposed dates to meet and have talks on solution to Lake Malawi boundary dispute.

The High Level Mediation Team (HLMT) from Pretoria South Africa led by former Mozambican president Joaquim Chissano and former South African president Thabo Mbeki, proposed that Mutharika and Magufuli should be briefed and consulted for further guidance on the resolution of the dispute.
They stated that the two heads of state should meet not more than three months from 12 July 2017, after which further directions shall be availed by the HLMT.
Spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Coopertaion, Rejoice Chaponda Shumba said HLMT will organise the dates of the meeting but that nothing has been set so far.
Malawi government has stuck to its position on the Lake Malawi Boundary Dispute with Tanzania, re-affirming its position that the Lake Malawi boundary is the shoreline of Lake Malawi as established by Article 1(2) of the 1890 Anglo-German Treaty and that it owns the whole lake.
Tanzania, claims it owns half of the northern area of the lake which it call it Lake Nyasa.
The oil and gas which is said to be found in the Lake Malawi have made the 50-year-old row over territory between Tanzania and Malawi more intense.

Its greedy from TZ side. NO shame to even pick up this now. Its that oil which Tanzanian want. Why Mozambique has asked for their part? How do u make a bourdary in the lake? . The whole Africa was divided wrong. If African want to correct boardaries it will lead to war that is what TZ want. Why can TZ Explorer oil in ocean, lake Tanganyika and Victoria. Did they wait until Malawi explored this oil? Supposing it is not much. Africans are failling to build their nations because of greednes. They still beg from West. Its a shame. I talked to a Tanzania professor AT Das Salam university Who said Lake Malawi or Nyasa is not Tanzanians wish but political. Politicians internet to make themeselves popular. Is TZ going to be rich If that part US given to them and have oil? NO. TZ like Malawi are corrupted nation. Oil will not make any difference to the people but leaders. Example Nigeria.
Muthalika is wasting precious and valued time on Lake Nyasa/Lake Malawi instead of revamping and bolster the hitherto devastated national economy with present natural resources. The real truth is that, the extraction of oil from the lake, will never ever improve the country’s economy which has been destroyed beyond repair through reckless and corrupt leadership.I have time and again endeavoured to warn Muthalika of the dangers of drilling oil from the lake, but to no avail and sticks to his opportunistic ambitions. On this piece,I will try to accentuate on Nigeria as a quintessence.Nigeria is the fourth oil producing nation in the world and, regrettably, its people are amongst the poorest on earth. You can not dispute this fact in the sense that,Nigerians are found in every country in the world including one of the poorest on earth,Malawi.WHY? Funds accumulated from oil transation, only 20% is for the 190 million Nigerians and 80% go to the ruling class and their serviles. In most cases,Nigeria’s oil out put, vanishes from gas public pumps and waiting ques can go to 5-6 Kilo Meters (2.5 miles),but you go to Nigeria’s forthwith neighbours, gas is tremendously in every pump.Forty years after independence,Nigeria presented a sorry spectacle.Wole Soyinka, the Lion of Africa, once described his own country as the open sore of a continent.Despite an oil bonanza of US$280 billion, the economy was dilapidated; public services were chronically inefficient;schools and hospitals were decaying; high education had virtually collapsed; roads were pitted with potholes; the telephone system hardly functioned. There were frequent power cuts; even shortages of domestic petroleum supplies. On average,Nigerians were poorer in 2000 than they had been at the start of the oil boom in early 1970s.In come per head at US$310 was less than one-third of that in 1980.Half of the population had no access to drinking water and another half of the population, lived on less than 30 cents a day.Almost one-fifth of children died before fifth birthday; nearly half of under-fives were stunted because of poor malnutrition.Millions of people lived in ghettoes surrounded by rotting mounds of garbage, without completely no access to basic amenities.Malawians,do not expect miracles if the oil is discovered in the lake.Muthalika is fighting for his own interests and know that,as soon as oil starts to flow, that is the END of millions of our people for the waters of the lake will be poisonous and contaminated eliminating completely marine life most importantly,FISH.It is pathetically melancholy that our so-called MPs do not even take part on this death or life issue.I used to enjoy Mfiti’s narrations,Iam missing him.GOODLUCK MUTHALIKA!!!!!!!!
