MCP gives in, reschedules Mangochi rally to Sunday
Main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has given in to president Peter Mutharika to hold his whistle stop tours this afternoob in Mangochi while Lazarus Chakwera has rescheduled his to Sunday.
MCP publicist Maurice Munthali said the rescheduling of the whistle stop tours and a rally in Mangochi to tomorrow follows a meeting the Leader of Opposition in parliament had with the police czar Rodney Jose.
“He pleaded with the Right Honourable Dr. Chakwera to reschedule the rally because he could not guarantee his security as the police would be overstretched because of other political activities of the head of state in the same area, the same time,” said Munthali.
Munthali said Chakwera, as a peace loving person, decided to reschedule the meeting, saying he could not advance his political ambition at the expense of peace and security of his supporters.
Mutharika is expected to hold his whistle stop tours in Mangochi after attending to a fundraising event for his ruling Democratic Progressive Party at Zomba State Lodge.
