Viola arrested for pawning Malawi govt vehicle to loan shark
When quizzed by Chikwawa Police, the Ngabu based loan shark refused to release the vehicle until Viola, a former broadcaster, pays back his money.
Viola is a sympathiser of the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and served as the second press secretary for former president Peter Mutharika before he was fired because of his poor relationship with some media houses.
He briefly worked in the ministry of Information as technical advisor before he was appointed to another lucrative job in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) as number four after the secretary to the cabinet.
Viola vied for a parliamentary seat in Chikhwawa but failed to win the election.
He was briefly arrested during the election vote counting period on allegations that he was involved in vote rigging and result manipulation in Chikhwawa, an allegation which was not proved and the police released him unconditionally.

Government cars and vehicles should all be traced. I know of government cars that have their numbers change to private numbers. On Chilima reforms he should include car tracking of all government vehicle and it will reveal the rampant abuse of government vehicles.

I fail to understand why guys like him, with all the privileges, but getting katapira?

Though bad to hear, but I hope it’s a learning point to most of us people that only hard work pays, THERE IS NO EASY MONEY.
Let me play the devil’s advocate here. I happen to remember a current MCP minister pawned his official vehicle when he was a big shot at Blantyre Print. Goes to show that we really need to be vigilant: the current regime ain’t made of saints.

How could this be allowed in a state with structures. These guys had to go. What else will we hear by end of day? The worst and heartless administration’ we have ever had. Am glad I voted. It’s all about leadership. He was too old. We need to change age limit for presidents.
