Chisale to remain on remand in prison: Court reserves bail ruling
The High Court in Blantyre has reserved to Monday a bail application ruling for former president Peter Mutharika’s aide, Norman Chisale, who is facing an attempted murder charge.
The case was held in camera before Judge Sylvester Kalembera as the court heard arguments from Chisale’s lawyer, Chancy Gondwe.
Kalembera said he would make the ruling at 11am Monday.
In his application for bail lawyer Gondwe said Chisale should be granted bail, as he cannot be kept on remand when the woman who was hit by a stray bullets has a sworn statement that she is not pressing any complaint against the former president’s bodyguard because it was not an attempted murder.
“There were attackers on the accused person on that particular day, and in trying to defend himself the bullet ended upon the knee of the victim,” Gondwe said.
This is Chisale’s second bail push in after he was arrested last Tuesday on fraud and money-laundering charges related to cement imports that allegedly used Mutharika’s duty free status when he was President. The Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court granted him bail on Friday.
But he never got around to enjoy his temporary freedom because within minutes of the court’s reprieve, police re-arrested him on an attempted-murder charge for allegedly shooting a woman in the knee in Blantyre two months ago.

Our police will never become competent it is full of partisan interests. No wonder Timothy mtambo and hrdc overrun and annihilated it again and again. It’s simply not professional enough
Attempted murder means a premeditated action, planed to be carried out (mens rea). Did he premeditated to shoot the lady? This vindictiveness is the stay of fodder of MCP
Who is Chisale alleged to have been attempting to murder? Surely it cannot have been the lady who was hit with the stray bullet; that makes no sense, at least from what I have been reading about the case.
Is it one of the attackers whom he is alleged to have been attempting to murder when he fired his gun?
Thieves and the Bible
Thought the same.. He is misusing the Bible to create a certain type of self-image. Ridiculous! Holding up the Bible in this fashion has little meaning. Actually reading it and following the words of Jesus is the way to go.
Was he firing to protect the president? This guy blundered for firing when he was not on duty with president? Further while the victim indicated she had no grudges, Chisale has a case with government because he attempted to kill a citizen of Malawi! So its the government against him, not the citizen!! Willy nilly use of fire arms is dangerous an has to be curbed……..!
So happy the beast Norman Chisale is in police cell. Now two weeks enjoying life in a cell. You stole, you intimidated. Power has its limitations
