Mchacha, Kumwembe court appearance awaits more arrests: Ex-ministers Kamlepo, Vuwa to be picked

Former minister Charles Mchacha and ministry of defense principal secretary Bright Kumwembe appearance in court might delay as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) wants to effect four more arrests, according to Nyasa Times sources.

Vuwa Kaunda: marked for arrest

Mchacha was arrested on Sunday while the ACB pounced on Kumwembe on Monday.

Nyasa Times sources say four more arrests are expected  and that include former ministers of land Kamlepo Kalua and Symon Vuwa Kaunda.

Kumwembe has spent the night in jail following his arrest by the ACB last evening.

ACB Director General Reyneck Matemba confirmed the arrest but did not disclose the details.

Reports however indicate that Kumwembe’s arrest is connected to that of Democratic Progressive Party Regional Governor for the south, Mchacha.

Mchacha was arrested on Sunday but details also remain sketchy.

But recently the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) reported Mchacha to the ACB for abuse of office allegations.

During his tenure as minister, Mchacha reportedly solicited huge sums of money from Lilongwe Water Board for his personal and political gains.

  1. Kodi ACB yasiya nkhani zonse za corruption ikupanga za DPP basi? Konseko kudalira ma judge a Tonse Party. We know this anger is from Chilima to DPP front liners.Be there when the tables turn.

  2. Mbava have no place in a civilised society. They did the crimes they MUST DO the time. Mbava zovala ma designer suits, mimba kwevekweve kumaba? Ma rubbish!

  3. I will celebrate the day I hear suspects are sentenced and stolen public resources recovered in full. As for now I feel the arrests are meant to disorient and weaken DPP. I should warn Tonse Government that if we hear that one or more of the suspects has won case and that citizens would pay them handsomely for illegal arrests I will mobilize Malawians to protest against Tonse Govt. We will call this Govt Ndekha Govt, We, at Poor People’s Front will withdraw our support for this Government. Prove every case beyond reasonable doubt.

  4. Politicians need no mercy, these people have no remorse in plundering Malawian taxes. People are dying in the hospitals due to unavailability of drugs and equipments in our hospitals, avoidable accidents are happening on our roads because contracts have been awarded curruptely. They misuse government funds like no ones business they have no fear at all. Lock them up and throw keys in the ocean so that others should take precedence.
Investigate them, try them and lock em up. We are tired of stinking corruption, theft of public resources.
ACB should use this free environment given by this administration without political interference in its operations to do it’s professional job.

No malice or ill will. No favor or fear. A new Malawi without crooks is possible let’s clear the rubles.

  5. Kumwembe is in cell, sad…… KUMWEMBE learn kusachitira nkhanza anthu amene ullibe nawo cifukwa, osawadziwa. Akamadandaula umapeza tsoka….

  6. Kamlepo has always been an intriguing character. Decades ago, he claimed to have some scoop about Kamuzu. We waited for it with baited breath, but got nothing. Fast forward, he found himself kidnapped and then left at a roundabout tied up like mbuzi. Despite all this stupid antics, it pleased His Excellency APM to make him a cabinet minister in the Ministry of Lands. On his first day on the job, he declared that his ministry was by far the most corrupt. Rotten to the cole! He vowed to clean it up. But then ….. he wasted no time to corruptly help himself with whatever available land he could lay his hands on. He was a man in a hurry, since the fresh elections were just weeks away.

This is a portrait of a joke of a man. As a very stupid country, we fully deserve folks like Kamlepo to be our cabinet ministers.

  7. Zomanga mmodzi mmodzi zikutha ndalama ndi fuel. Tangomangani DPP yonse, aliyense azikazipulumutsa yekha . Opanda mulandu akatuluka

  8. Mr Matemba you can do better by nor arresting the Politicians, there are better ways of handling corruption cases than arresting the People. Dont be used by people to harass opposition DPP Politicians by arresting to make them weak, some of these people you are arresting will be acquited because you dont have strong cases against them and they will come back in Government madzaithawa dziko musakufuna. These people must not be handled as hardcore criminals, whatever its supposed to be different, some of the guys you want to arrest are vere dangerous and will dent the MCPs eligibility to win again in 2025.

    1. This is backward thinking; sorry to say that. Irresponsible politicians have been responsible for the nation’s woes. Poverty, avoidable deaths, loss of public resources, you name any evil things, politicians are there. The people feel have owned everything including people found in this country; once they have assumed power to reign. Such politicians should be held to account for their mischief; no matter the amount of resources involved and how long it takes; because the aim should be to stop that behavior. This nation has been backward in many aspects because of such politicians. For example, they enjoy duty free imports (at times they abuse it) when an ordinary citizen is made to pay in full; but they have no remorse for them. Let these politicians pay through their noses.
