Newcomers KB, Kabwafu shock old guards

Two newcomers in the elite TNM Super League were on cloud nine on Sunday as they managed to collect maximum three points in their second games against old guards in the league.

At the giant, Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city Blantyre, visiting Kamuzu Barracks (KB) were on a serious mission, as they won 2-0 to Blantyre United.

The happy moment for Kamuzu Barracks coach Kenwood Nkhoma came in the 32nd minute when Dennis Kambewa opened the score sheet with a header.

Blantyre United tried to come back into the game, but their striking force was not sharp enough to unlock Kamuzu Barracks defence.

As both teams were going on recess, it was 1-0 in favour of the Lilongwe based soldiers.

Come second half, Blantyre United also popularly known as ‘Mphembedzu zaku Blantyre’ tried to equalize but all their efforts failed in vain because  Kamuzu Barracks were too good in all the departments.

Six minutes before the end of the game, Frazer Menyani gunned down Blantyre United with the second goal earning his out-fit the deserved three points.

Nkhoma described victory as encouraging, saying it will give confidence to his side.

“This result will give my team confidence. I am very happy because correcting maximum points in an away game is not a joke and we will make sure that we continue with this pace,” said Nkhoma.

Assistant coach for Blantyre United Steven Mbulanje blamed referee for contributing to his team’s loss, saying he was incompetent.

Another newcomer in the league, Kabwafu United had a successful Sunday, as they managed to beat Epac FC 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.

Dan Nsimuko was responsible in destroying Epac with a brace.

“This is a worrisome development because loosing points to smaller teams like Kabwafu will cost us at one point in time,” said Epac’s coach Abasi Makawa.

As the top-flight newcomers were singing victory songs, it was a sweet Sunday to defending champions Silver Strikers. The bankers managed to stop Azam Tigers with a 2-0 victory at Silver Stadium.

The Bankers, who haven’t lost any game since the league started, scored their goals through Dave Moya and man of the moment Peter ‘Pido’ Pindani.

Escom United and Blue Eagles drew 1-1 at Nankhaka stadium.

Innocent Bokosi scored first for the Cops before Chimwemwe Nyakamera equalized for the electricians.
