Wycliffe Chimwendo teams up with gospel greats for December comeback show

Beloved gospel star Wycliffe Chimwendo is gearing up for a triumphant comeback after time away from the spotlight, with the Blantyre-based singer set to mark an incredible 30 years in music with a lavish celebration later this year.

The hitmaker behind smash tracks “Total Lie” and “Afafaniza” revealed he is “reeling to go” and preparing to unleash a wave of brand new music, alongside a string of live performances designed to remind fans exactly why he became a household name.

“I feel energized to make this comeback and more so that I am looking at celebrating my 30 years in music. I am thankful to God for the walk I have made, ministering His words,” Chimwendo said.

The veteran musician will headline a spectacular 30th anniversary celebration at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on December 20, 2026 — an event already generating serious buzz among Malawi’s gospel music faithful.

As headliner for the milestone night, Chimwendo is expected to share the stage with a stellar lineup of fellow old-timers from the gospel scene, including Kenya-based Chrissie Kamthunzi, Bishop Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, the Ndirande Anglican Voices, and Lloyd Phiri and the Happiness Voices.

Chikondi Chapambana, who is managing the star-studded anniversary celebrations, teased that fans should brace themselves for something truly special from the veteran performer.

“He is making this comeback rebranded and so, there is so much to see and at the same time he is looking forward to continue to minister the word of God through music,” Chapambana said.

Chimwendo first burst onto the gospel scene with his debut hit “Wanga Ndi Yesu” back in 1996, before going on to release six further albums that cemented his status as one of Malawi’s most cherished gospel voices — including God is on My Side, Sizobisa, Ndani Akufuna Yesu and Yesu Wapambana.

With three decades of ministry through music behind him, fans across Malawi will be eagerly counting down the months until Chimwendo takes to the BICC stage in what promises to be an unforgettable night of celebration, worship and nostalgia.
