Three new senior chiefs for Mulanje as Minister Ben Phiri urges integrity
Local Government Minister Ben Phiri has urged Malawi’s chiefs to uphold integrity and steer clear of corruption as three traditional authorities were elevated to senior chiefs in Mulanje.

Phiri, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, was speaking at Mulanje Park Stadium during the ceremony, which saw Traditional Authorities Ndanga, Njema and Juma promoted to senior chief.
Group Village Head Fletcher was also promoted to Sub-Traditional Authority.
“Chiefs are critical to the development of their people. They are part of the development agenda. They should avoid corruption to protect and ensure the citizens enjoy their rights,” he said.
Mulanje District Commissioner Chriss Nawata said the elevations will strengthen local governance and promote development in the district.
Paramount Chief Kaduya urged the newly elevated chiefs to promote unity among their subjects.
The promotions bring Mulanje’s total to seven senior chiefs, alongside two traditional authorities and one sub-traditional authority.
