‘That calls for a Carlsberg’ Nomads keeper relishes win over BB
Mighty Wanderers first choice custodian, Richard Chipuwa says his teams’ s win over rivals Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday puts them in good stead to fight for the league title.
Chipuwa, who was named man-of-the match, attributed team work and hard working spirit in their success on Sunday against Bullets in the TNM Super League.
The Nomads came from behind to clip the People’s team 2-1 in an entertaining encounter, which was grace by a huge number of spectators. Bullets and Wanderers are all being bankrolled by Carlsberg Malawi Limited.
Chipuwa told Nyasa Times that despite trailing 1-0 in the first 45 minutes of the match, they told each other never to give up during recess time.
“We knew it that in a game of football anything was possible. During half time we inspired each other to go for a win,” said Chipuwa, who was outstanding after frustrating Bullets for several times with his timely saves in goals.
The Nomads savior, Joseph ‘Shakira’ Kamwendo , who scored a winning goal for the Lali-Lubani boys says it was “the best moment in my days at Wanderers.”
The former Orlando Pirates genius was also responsible in destroying Big Bullets last season in the second round encounter in the same league in Lilongwe at Civo Stadium, when the Nomads also came from behind to beat the People’s team 2-1.
No wonder, the Nomads fans chanted after the game all the way to their team’s base at Lali- Lubani, “Siife koma Joseph Kamwendo, Bullets! Sife koma Joseph Kamwendo.”
One Nomads fan even mocked their opponents that, “We will request the Super League of Malawi to let Kamwendo go to Europe because the Super League is not fit for him. Look what he did to Bullets?,”
Now the focus is on July 14, 2012, as the two teams are also expected to tussle each other at the
same venue during the Carlsberg Cup Launching ceremony.
But for now, Wanderers supporters can celebrate their Sunday win and “that calls for a Carlsberg.”
