Woman arrested for murdering lover over ‘central locking’
A 48 year old woman Elizabeth Harold from Mbele village, Traditional Authority Mduwa in Mchinji is in police custody for allegedly murdering her 60 year old lover Pesulani Jede as it is alleged that her husband magically locked her so that when she sleeps with another man something bizarre should happen.
According to Mchinji Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nyirenda, the brother of Jede, Kozani Elliard reported to police that his brother died after having sexual intercourse with Harold and they suspected she poisoned him.
“The brother told us that the deceased went to Harold’s place which is 500 meters from his house upon learning that the husband was outside the country looking for a job. He did not know that the man locked his wife so much so that after having sexual intercourse with her he started complaining of a headache and later on started vomiting and died an hour later,” said Nyirenda.
But in an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) Harold denied the deceased was her lover saying he was her elder brother through different fathers and was trying to rape her in order to get rich.
She said the deceased approached her last year asking her to sleep with him but she denied saying he was her brother and doing that was incest.
“I told my husband then the intentions of my brother and he approached him and warned him to stay away from me. I believe he wanted to use me as a ritual to boost his agriculture business,” she said.
Harold continued saying the brother kept on approaching her until recently before his death on 28th June when her husband said he was going to look for a job in Zambia and warned her if she is going to sleep around something might happen.
“My husband told me that if I do anything silly the 40th day will come when I will be exposed. That same night my husband went away, my brother came using a female voice to call me, I was deceived with the voice because I thought it was my daughter who was pregnant and I suspected she was in labor.
“But when I went out, I just landed into the hands of the brother who covered my mouth so that I should not shout and dragged me to a nearby house which was under construction. He started raping me and just before he finished, he started complaining of a headache and I managed to free myself from him, then he started vomiting,” she said.
Harold then said she called for help and people came to take the man to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Mchinji Police PRO, postmortem results from Mchinji District Hospital show that the man died of poisoning. The sample has been taken to Lilongwe for further examination to establish what really happened as the intestines of the deceased were entangled.
“We have taken some samples to Bwemba research station for further results, we would like to find out if the man really died of poisoning or some magic was really performed,” said Nyirenda.
Harold will soon appear before court to answer murder charges when the testing is finalised.
