Constituents block Kaliati, Kachikho from 2014 race

The ride to 2014 is tough for former minister of Information. MP for Mulanje West,  Patricia Kaliati who after being told off by constituents has sneaked into Mulanje Pasani with the hope of becoming MP there in 2014.

Kaliati is often organizing meetings with some chiefs and party leaders in Mulanje Pasani to market herself  for the 2014 elections.

Mulanje Pasani belongs to Peter Nowa as the current MP.

Kaliati: Consider relocating

People and leaders in Mulanje West, where Kaliati has been MP for many years, have told her in the face that they no longer want her.

The people in the constituency have since showing their support to a retired officer called a Mr. Kolove who is providing basic social amenities to the people.

Kolove has also established a coffin workshop where people of Mulanje West constituency get free coffins.

Kaliati who had great command in the constituency has lost it and constituents say  they do not want her because they are tired of being called names whenever she is helping them.

Relocation

Realizing that she cannot make it as MP again in the constituency, Kaliati has decided to invade Mulanje Pasani.

“She has been meeting some chiefs and leaders. She has had meetings at Mwanakhu and other places. Whenever she is driving in the constituency and finds people at a local beer place, she stops and buys in bulks,” said one man from Mulanje Pasani.

The source said Kaliati is on her knees before the leaders in Mulanje Pasani to allow her as their candidate in 2014. But there is resistance from other leaders who she should never be allowed to
contest in the area.

“We do not want her here. Let her contest in Chiradzulu where she comes from. We have our own candidates here. If her own people reject her why should we accept her?” said one traditional leader.

Kachikho snub

In another development, people of Phalombe North have disowned their MP Anna Kachikho for associating with Peoples Party.

The people have since declared that they will look for another candidate for 2014.

“We told our MP that since she has chosen to side with PP, our contract with her is terminated. We told her that we will get another candidate for 2014 under DPP,” one leader said.

The decision of the Phalombe North constituents has put Kachikho in a fix with one morning saying she supports PP and another morning saying she is back to DPP.
