Nyamilandu won’t seek 4th term as FA Malawi president
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Walter Nyamilandu has disclosed that he will not seek another term at the end of his current four-year term next year.
Nyamilandu said at the extraordinary executive committee meeting held on Saturday that he has achieved his goal of developing football in the country.
The FAM boss cited the championing of securing sponsorship for football cups in the country as he came at a time the companies had withdrawn sponsorship because of maladministration and violence.
“I have accomplished what I had wanted to achieve from the goals I had set,” Nyamilandu said.
“I came at a time when the country was experiencing sponsorship drought for competitions.”
But the former Mighty Wanderers and national football team defender did not disclose his plans after leaving the football governing body.
“It’s time to move on and give others a chance to lead the association. I would like to take other challenges.”
Nyamilandu was elected FAM president in 2003 during extraordinary elections necessitated by former President Sammer Suleman disqualification failing to satisfy minimum academic requirements after he was elected in 2002.
He has been elected twice for a four-year term and the current term is expected to run out in December next year.
Nyamilandu has also managed to secure a K250 million three-year sponsorship for the Malawi national football team from Carlsberg Malawi Limited.
