Katsonga’s Chipani Cha Pfuko disbands for DPP membership
The sole Member of Parliament (MP) for Chipani Cha Pfuko (CCP) Davis Chester Katsonga, who joined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has confirmed that his party has written the Registrar of Political Parties to deregister it.
Katsonga said CCP through its Secretary General Wisiki Sadick, informed the Register of Political parties that it is disbanding after noting some manifesto similarities with DPP.
He also said DPP government is “showing commitment and seriousness” to good governnce and development of the nation.
Katsonga, who was one of the 12 presidential candidates in the May 20 elections, claimed that President Peter Mutharika is committed to transforming Malawi both economically and socially.
“And we would like to be a part of that success, besides, isn’t that Malawi is crying out for?”
Furthermore, Katsonga has called on all his party members to join DPP.
Commenting on the news Malawi’s Law expert Edge Kanyongolo said the move will change nothing in the country’s political landscape following the party’s performance in the just ended elections.
