Kaliati calls for advocacy on higher education
Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has said there is need for more advocacies on issues of education among people in the country to enable them attain higher education.
Kaliati said this on Friday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe after a delegation from the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture met President Professor Peter Mutharika to discuss with him issues of promoting education in the African region.
“The delegation decided to meet President Mutharika to discuss issues of promoting education after realising that he has vast knowledge in Science and Technology education which would help many Universities in the Africa region,” said Kaliati.
She said the delegation had an opportunity to ask Mutharika to be in the forefront in advocating issues of higher education in African taking advantage of his vast experience and knowledge in such issues.
Kaliati noted that many people in the country especially women had less qualifications in higher education hence the need to encourage them to work hard and apply for scholarships for higher education studies from other Universities in African taking advantage of the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity building in Agriculture initiatives.
The Minister called on the women and youths to mobilise themselves and take on challenges that hinder them to pursue studies of higher education.
Kaliati emphasized the need to encourage the girl child to go school since she said they were vulnerable groups in the society.
The Executive Secretary for the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture Adipala Ekwemu said the delegation decided to meet President Professor Mutharika to appeal to other African Heads of State to advocate for higher education.
He said Africa had limited capacity building in human resource development hence the need for the Heads of State to take a leading role in such issues.
Michael ‘Patricia Kaliyati’ Jackson’s face will one day turn into that of an ape like the way Michael Jackson’s ended up.
But do you know that poor Malawians educate themselves with so much difficulty and they can not get a job in their own country all jobs go to the so called expatriates. our educated children end up working as messengers or servants, waiters. you have to get rid of the sp called expatriates.
Your so full of shit. How many so called expats are there? Maybe 500 in total? How many malawian are there? 16.000.000 and growing by 15% per year whilst expat number are going down. Follow zimbabwe and get rid of expats and see what happens to unemployment. They tried and failed. Why don’t you get off your ass and do something to create work instead of just running you pie hole off complaining. We all belong to the same world and those so called expats were probably born right here anyway
Mzukwa on the move!
