PIL donates K10m to ‘Keep BT clean, green campaign’
Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) has made a donation of K10 million to the ‘Keep Blantyre clean & green campaign’ which was launched by Blantyre City Mayor Noel Chalamanda on November 1, 2014.

Making the donation at the Blantyre City assembly Civic Centre, PIL Chairman Dr Davies Lanjesi said the donation will go towards construction of concrete bins to be constructed within the city at the direction f the Blantyre City assembly.
“This a good initiative that needs to be supported Mr. Mayor,” said Lanjesi who was flanked with fellow PIL Board directors namely Micheal Malitano, Zuber Bhana and PIL General Manager Ernwell Kadango.
“We would want to propose that the city should do something to drivers who throw out dirt when driving in our streets because this is bad and our streets should look nice and tidy,” added Lanjesi.
Blantyre City Mayor Noel Chalamanda thanked PIL for the ‘huge’ donation so far and said this will jerk other companies in the corporate world to join the campaign.
“We are thankful for this donation and I know that what you have done will make other companies join the keep Blantyre Clean and green campaign,” said Chalamanda.
“People will have no excuse of littering the streets since we will construct these concrete bins all over the city,” added Chalamanda.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Keep Blantyre Clean & green Campaign Khwesi Msusa praised PIL for the donation saying this will go a long way towards making the city clean.
“As a committee we are very thankful for this donation, it’s a huge boost to this campaign and we hope other companies will emulate example set by PIL. We are also asking companies not to only make cash donations but they can even by the materials on their own like pipes and other material of cleaning the Mudi River for example,” said Msusa.
