Balaka registers a drop in child abuse cases
Victim Support and Child Protection Coordinator for Balaka Police Station Constable Donna Kaoloka has commended people of Balaka for reporting to the police cases on child abuse and other domestic crime that has somehow helped reduce the crimes rate in the district.
Kaoloka said this following the arrest of a 33 year old man Macsome Phiri who comes from Siliya village, Traditional Authority Chanthunya in the same district of Balaka on allegation that he has defiled a 7 year old girl.
She said cases of defilement and failing to support children are some of the cases being registered in the district.
“In 2014, Balaka Police registered 35 cases of defilement as compared to 20 cases which were registered in the year 2013,” she said,
Kaoloka attributed the decrease to efforts by the residents to fight child abuse cases by reporting perpetrators to Police.
He also commended the Civil Society and Community Child Protection Workers in the district for sensitizing the general public to report perpetrators of child abuse cases to Police.
“It is in fact the duty of everyone to protect children as stipulated in the Child Protection and Juvenile Justice Act of 2010,” she said.
She there warned that Police will not hesitate to arrest perpetrators of child related cases including those who shun reporting cases of this nature.

Is Kalooka competent enough to understand these issues? How u say a drop when there is an increase? Or is a reporter not educated enough to tell us what is on the ground? My foot!
Sizikumveka a drop?
It is the opposite if the figures in 2013 and 2014 are anything to go by.
Mr Hary Chibwe, please, revisit/rewrite the story. Its not making sense.
Is Kaooloka a “he” or a “she”? Does 35 in 2014 compared to 20 in 2013 represent a drop? I think it is an increase in reported cases. No?
