Chirambo death overshadows Bullets exit in CAF Champions League

Bullets FC were shown an exit-door in the 2015 CAF Champions League on Sunday after a 1-1 draw against AL-Hilal of Sudan in a lowly patronized encounter at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The Peoples Team, whose defender Douglas Chirambo died a few hours before the game after a long illness, bowed out 5-1 on aggregate having lost the first round, first leg 4-0 in Khartoum.

Sunday’s match experienced low patronage due to gate fee rise from K1000 to K2000 in the open stands.

Wearing black arm bands, the Bullets kicked-off the match on a high note as they kept the visitors on a tight rope but they striking force was blunt.

Jaffalie Chande and Tigzowere Kumwenda were left with the mantle to score goals but they kept chasing their own shadows as David Simbo guarded AL-Hilal defence jealously.

The game exploded to life after the break when the Bullets snatched the lead through James Chilapondwa’s 74th minute penalty, awarded after Seyifu Masawi’s handball.

However, the lead was short-lived. It was wiped out two minutes later by Al Hilal’s super substitute Frank Boubacar’s neat finish.

Meanwhile, Blantyre fans will pay their last respects for Chirambo Monday  April 6 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Thereafter Lilongwe fans will also pay their last respects at his sister’s house in Area 14 before proceeding to Rumphi, where he will be finally laid to rest on Tuesday

  4. as we all know evryone in this country after working he gets a pension or gratuities.why not our players, government should think of that coz we have seen dagaras chirambo struggling with his life failling to get k2,500,000 to go to the hospital in south africa for head sugery which is not fair for someone who played for the malawi national team and big bullets.i understand that when he was addimited at thyolo hospital not even a single official went to see him.this is very unhuman.we hav the players who retired from football who are struggling.or imagine a player has a permanent injury that he is not going to play again they all rot townships.

  5. Am greatly disappointed with the Daglous has handled during his illness .No one seems was not interested to take step ahead .Otherwise this country has referred several patients to RSA or India for treatment i don’t know why his case was different .RIP

  8. Football management has been the problem. Those managing football starting from FAM to club level. You don’t have welfare for your own players. It’ embarrancing. You celebrate when the play for you a,d turn a blind eye when they are in problems. Shame on you!

  10. Malawi is a rotten nation. Why are you going to display remains of a guy at a stadium and then later in Lilongwe? Why couldn’t you organize a fundraising match for him to access the treatment he needed in South Africa. This country of 10 million dirt poor villagers and 5 million slum dwellers ruled by a clueless law professor makes me sick!

  13. RIP DAGA.Very sad to loose a player Like Daga in this manner. Please lets look for ways to assist these players when they are sick and looking for medical treatment.Lests show them that we care and love them when they are in trouble and indeed need our hands.MAY HIS SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.My sincere condolence to the Chirambo family.

  14. Whatever the outcome, bullets i still restpect you have tried, you are not the first team to bow out of Caf, keep up the fighting spirit. And for daga may his soul rest in peace, life is what it is.

  15. National players have no peace in football!I don’t if they have even Insurance coverage!Pity!

  17. I blame it on the supporters. Bullets claim to be having over 4000000 supporters and this entails a contribution of K50.00 from each supporter would make up the required amount. I thought the supporters claim ownership of the team? Next take an interest in your player’s welfare not kumangoba ma gate collections.

  18. Malawi is a joke. The government could send a comedian for treatment outside Malawi, but could not send a national team player for treatment. This guy represented Malawi and this is the reward he gets. Walter you could have done better than that. He was an active player not even a retired player.

    1. Its true Chirambo served not only bullets but also flames. But the leadership of fam shared negativity opinion on bullets disregarding the services rendered by Chirambo to the nation.RIP Douglous,God loved you.

  19. May his innocent soul rest in peace eternally.Jesus the risen one will console the bereaved family.

  20. Fam, Sulom and Government, make it a policy that all clubs should have medical and insurance cover in the contracts for their players. Where is the players union? They should be championing for welfare of their colleagues. Lets run these clubs in a profesional maner so that our players benefit. Supporters stop stealing gate collections. This is the money which could help clubs to run effectively.

  21. Comment CHILAMBO YOU HAVE GONE TOO EARLY FOR BB, YOU SERVICES WERE NEENED NOW AT PEAK. WE WILL MISS YOU AND REMEMBER YOU AND YOUR SERVIVES .MAY YOUR AOUL REST IN PEACE.AMEN .

  22. NDINU ZITSIRU A BULLETS YOU FAILED TO FINANCIALY ASSIST HIM WHILE HE WAS SICK NOW MWAYAMBA KU JIJIRIKA PA MALIRO

  23. Guys you put a galant fight only that the first game was played at night so we arent used to that.otherwise it was a good game to watch. All the best in TNM premier league

  25. walter ananena kuti ‘you cant afford to play in this competition,’ mumati ali jealous.

komanso its about time we professionalise our football. si zowona kuti player mpakana kumwalila chifukwa chosowa 2 million. we need good contracts with good salaries, individual club sponsorship and incentives. zisamangothela m’matumba awanthu ndalama pamene akuvutika mu ground ndi ena. zimandiwawa
