Mutharika in South Africa for African Union Summit: To discuss Xenophobia
President Peter arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday for the 25th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the African Union (AU) due to open at the Sandton International Conference Centre this Sunday.
President Mutharika who is coming straight from Egypt where he joined fellow leaders from Southern and Eastern Africa to launch the Tripartite Free Trade area (TFTA), gets down to work immediately.
On Saturday, President Mutharika is scheduled to attend the 33rd Summit of the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Orientation Committee and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) summit.
Apart from the AU, NEPAD and APRM summits, President Mutharika is also expected to hold bilateral talks with various African leaders as well as a number of dignitaries and investors.
Among those expected to hold talks with President Mutharika is the Executive Director of the UNFPA Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin.
At least 54 heads of state government are expected to attend the two day summit under the theme; “Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development”.
Issues expected to dominate the discussions at the summit include the global migration crisis, xenophobia and turmoil in Burundi and the threat posed by Islamist militants.

The practice of forcing Malawian women Nationals to be wearing party colours when they are simply going to welcome their President should stop. Many women in the diaspora don’t like this and hence shun invitations to welcome the President where party zealots wants to do the way party women do here at home
