A five year old burnt to death in Thyolo

A Friday turned sour in Mathotho Village in Thyolo when a bush fire lit by children burned a five year old girl to death.

The tragedy occurred when three children including the deceased, Ivy Nakeli were sent out to burn a heap of dry grass in a nearby garden.

Narrating the ordeal, Police Publicist for Thyolo, Edith Likaka said on Tuesday the child was burnt after she failed to run away when the fire they had set became out of control and started burning the surrounding bush.

“When the children had set the heap ablaze, the fire caught the surrounding bush and the other three children ran away, but the five year old fell and was caught up in the inferno.

“The children who managed to escape informed parents who went to rescue the child but found her burnt to death,” said Likaka.

Likaka has called on parents to advise their children to avoid setting fires and always make sure to leave them in the attention of an adult.

The deceased hailed from Mathotho Village, T/A Mphuka in Thyolo where the other three friends also come from.
