Deputy Minister of Lands Abida Sidik Mia has handed over the school block through Nsanje District Council to the Ministry of Education, at Matundu Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Nsanje South constituency.
During the handover ceremony, Mia said she decided to embark on the project after Chief Chimombo made a request to her.
“In response to the Chief’s request, I found that there was serious need for the establishment of a secondary level school to help in reducing the high illiteracy levels,” she said.
According to Chief Education Officer for Nsanje, Greystone Alindiamao, the new school will among other things, lessen the problem of students walking long distances to school.
He said the area has two schools; Nyachirenda CDSS and Chekelele CDSS to which learners have to travel a distance of 10 – 15 kilometres
