Abusa Singh to be cremated at Sikh temple: Ashes to be buried
Politician Helen Singh will be cremated on Tuesday after a funeral service at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
Asante Masache, spokesperson for Singh’s United Independence Party and spokesperson for the family on the funeral matters said soon after the funeral service at Comesa Hall, her body would be cremated at Limbe Sikh temple as per her wish and the ashes would be put in a grave.
“People should celebrate her life as she lived to help others, especially the needy,” said Masache.
Residents in Mandala neighbourhood in Blantyre, where she lived, remembered her as a person who provided food and vehicles during bereavement and water to residents during water crisis that persistently hit the city.
She unsuccessfully stood for the presidency during the 2014 elections and got just a few hundreds votes.
Singh also vied twice for a parliamentary seat in Ntcheu Bwanje where she came from.
In 2005, she was in the limelight as she fought a legal battle with her son in the High Court over the control of SS Rent A Car which she founded with her Indian husband who died in 2002. She owned 56 houses and a fleet of vehicles, among other investments.
