ACB nicks MP Nicholas Dausi over abuse of office
Graft-busting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), has arrested Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member of Parliament for Mwanza Central Constituency, Nicholas Dausi, over alleged abuse of office.
Dausi is alleged to have used his office wrongly when he was Minister of Homeland Security during the Peter Mutharika administration.
He joins a legion of many other DPP lawmakers such as Joseph Mwanamvekha, Ben Phiri and Charles Mchacha, among others.
ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala confirmed the arrest of Dausi, saying the legislator was picked on Friday afternoon.
Ndala said Dausi has been arrested on allegations that he abused his office by arbitrarily approving an exorbitant and unbudgeted for procurement contract between Malawi Government and One Guard FZE for the supply of Uniforms and Equipment for Malawi Prison Services which was initiated by Ministry of Homeland Security headquarters in Lilongwe against public procurement procedures.
The enthusiastic lawmaker will be taken to court after an interview, said the ACB spokesperson.
