Graft busting body, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials say investigations on the 17 files connected to the K236 billion is on course.
However, spokesperson for ACB , Egritta Ndala said the 17 company files handed over to ACB from the office of the Auditor General amounts to K17 billion only out of the suspected K236 billion.
“The auditor general explained that his office had not fully completed the auditing exercise so the files we have do not contain all the suspected cashgate money,” she said.
Ndala said when her organisation gets such files, the first step is to launch investigations before prosecution.
Her comments come after the Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale told the ACB and other prosecuting agencies not to prosecute the matter until through investigations.
ACB executive director Lucas Kondowe said the files do not contain names of senior cabinet ministers.
Information minister Malisen Ndau said the government is not protecting anyone in the prosecution of the cashgate suspects.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
