Africa Business College directors arrested for issuing fake certificates

Directors of the Africa Business College have been arrested and remanded at Maula Prison on charges of  making a false document and obtaining money by false pretence.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Ramsy Mushani identified the three directors as 32 year old Peter Machilika from Lilonde village TA Kanduku in Mwaza district, 35 year old Baxton nkhoma from Chinkhadze village, TA chiwere in Dowa district and  Lyson Sakala, 33 years old from Mazini village, TA Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba.

It is suspected that Machilika and fellow directors who have a college in area 25, were using a fake United Kingdom based examination board through which students were being examined for their certificates and diplomas.

According to Mushani, the three approached Bakhita College from Balaka to have a joint venture whereby students should be tested using the board which they agreed.

Later, Machilika approached Sky View College on the same issue, a move which materialized.   In total, Bakhita and Sky View were swindled about K500 000 and K1 600 000 respectively.

However, the darkest hour to the three came when a student from Sky View observed some anomalies on his certificate.

“The student approached his lecture, who together went to TEVETA for further scrutiny of the certificate, a matter which the body reported to police. The police then approached the British Council for assistance who confirmed that the board does not exist in UK, that’s when we picked them up,” said Mushani.

Mushani said the three appeared in court last week and charged, they are on remand pending further investigations.
