Aircraft donated to Gertrude Mutharika’s Beautify Malawi Trust

First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s Beautify Malawi Trust has received a donation of an aircraft from Delivering Hope International (DHI), an American humanitarian organisation.

The donation has been made to assist the First Lady and her Trust to respond to emergencies on time.

Madam Mutharika: Gets aircraft
Madam Mutharika: Gets aircraft

According to Collins Magalasi, President Mutharika’s Chief Economic Adviser, the benefactor will meet the operational costs of the D4 plane for two years.

“They will also provide pilots and engineers in that period,” said Magalasi.

D4 is a two-seat light aircraft capable of landing or taking off on a flat field measuring at least 100 metres.

“It means the plane would be able to land on football pitches, and that makes it ideal and convenient for the fulfilment of the purpose for which it has been given,” he explained.

Magalasi said the donation was timely considering that country depended on Malawi Defence Force’s (MDF) helicopters to respond to natural disasters.

DHI president will be in Malawi in the next fortnight to have the aircraft registered and licenced.

DHI is a Christian non-profit organisation with three-fold long term goal; missionary team mobilisation, aircraft response and humanitarian aid.

  1. Anzathu mumadziwa bwino za ndege inu tatiuzani bwino bwino kuti akati 2 seater plane amatanthauza chiyani? Because if it means our simple English understanding, then this plane is a big joke to our 1st lady coz it means the President will play a pilot role while the wife plays a passenger role thereby demeaning themselves. Koma akakhala Peter ndi kudziwa ineyo, ndege imene yo aikana!! Azunguwa asamatitole pa ziri zonse mu dzina lotithandiza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. The whites are bad people. After noting that Peter had introduced the zero defeceit budget, they are now giving him this useless plane so that all the collected monies should go towards maintaining this plane instead of channeling the resources to other dept. Zimatengera mtsogoleri wa nzeru kuiwerengera patali game ndi kupeza chochita pompo pompo osati mpakana madzi afike mu mkhosi. The president should have rejected the plane right there if its really a gift coz I don’t see any relevance of this plane to Beam trust whose core values is sanitation. Nanga job Description ya Beam kweni kweni ndi chiyani? Kaya inu mukuona bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa??????????????

  3. Have you ever heard a benefaciary rejecting a gift? This is an example of a gift to be turned down.

    Citizen

  4. I understand this 2 seater is for emergency purposes. I cant connect beautifying Malawi and Emergency, can somebody tell me?

  5. aba ndalama agulira kandege, beam beam yachani, kodi calista alipo kkkkkkk wasowatu getu mbalw wako kkkkk muyaluka

  6. olo a Beforward sangagulitse izi. This is for breaking or suitable for collectables at a museum

  7. If Mr Magalasi as so called chief economic adviser to PM thinks that a 2 seater aircraft can respond to Malawi’s natural disasters in stead of the non existant MDF choppers then he must be a seriously ill patient that should be evacuated immediately by Delivering Hope International.

  8. Delivering Hope calls it ‘Malawi Express’!
accordingto the Delivering Hope (see rescuetheoppressed.blogspot.co.uk, the plane is coming to Malawi for recertification and other modifications that may be necessary. check the site for more details. According to the blogspot, It seems it is Dr Magalasi and one Naomi chidiwa are the ones mediating this process as of now. DH ALSO mentions that their aim is to work with Save Widows and Orphans

The plane, did 237hrs in 7 years and last flew in 1980….34 years ago..so take care. Since then , it has been out for designer improvements including the vertical stabliser, nose landing gear and fuel sumps in the wings…..

it seems the plans to have the plane in Malawi were there way before BEAM was born (ee: rescuetheoppressed.blogspot.co.uk for more details)

  9. May be it’s a convertible yacht, one seat for sir and the other for madame muthalika! KKKKKkKKk! Can Kaliyati come and comment please!

  10. What a joke!! how will a plane that has not been in the air since 1980 help clean the streets in Malawi? This woman is just as lame as her husband. DHI is a new charity organization that just started in the US and is looking for partnerships. How much will the maintenance of this plane cost? Are these people serious?

  11. mphatso sakana.if u have other reasons that make u you fail using it,just keep keep it the way you do with your property bought using your own money.Do not look a gifted horse in the mouth. They say-its two years of free service…what next? the trust will determine if it is worthy servicing and being used.Remember its not a governent entity but one with a goal to do something for the country’s good.why talk of the country ‘s tax?ngati wina akupatsa mphatso ndiye kuti wawona ulibe that item.So just receive poopa kuti iye ndi anthu ena akumva kukana kwako adzawopa kukupatsa chinthu china mtsogolo.

  12. Lets be frank here a 2seater is not of any importance to Malawi, tell them to donate Malaria drugs instead of that fucken missile,

  13. mwahahahahahahahahaha two seater plane kikikikiki the first lady and who pilot kumasisita ka (lundi) mwina kamwendo nanga titi chani. Eeeh mwina eni ake anawona kuti maywo ali ndi mwendo kikikikikikiki ka pheputi

  14. Oh! my God! The plane is ‘A home- built plane that falls under the “EXPERIMENTAL”

    READ THIS MALAWIANS
I submitted my proposal to the Malawian heads of state via e-mail outlining the duties and responsibilities of all anticipated participants in the plan. Our primary obligation in this agreement is to finish modifications and recertification of the BD-4 Aircraft that was donated to Delivering Hope International in June, export it to Malawi, and accept full responsibility of ownership, funding, maintenance, and operation of it in Malawi. The BD-4 is a four-place, home-built plane that falls under the “Experimental” category in the United States. It boasts a nearly 1,000 pound useful load, and leaps off the ground in about six-hundred feet (200 m). Even with the Lycoming O-360 (180 horse power) Engine, the BD-4 is an economical choice capable of burning either Aviation Gasoline (Avgas) or Automotive fuel of the proper grade. This aircraft currently sits in a tricycle gear configuration but can be rather easily modified to a taildragger, and has boasted an amazing safety track record. Furthermore, the BD-4 has the potential of transporting one patient laying down and one health care worker in addition to the pilot.

  15. ndalama kusowa zopanga nazo uku – ndi 92 billion kwacha ija inu mumati – tiyeni tidzuke a Malawi tisagone tulo akuona ngati ife ana.

  16. Lol lol. Why not donate something than an old 2 seater aircraft – seriously her trust needs so many things but 2 seater aircraft – a joke. What is it that we don’t know guys.

  17. Can someone enlighten me on beautify Malawi? Is it an emergency relief foundation? Something is not right here – the truth will come out one day. Zayambika.

  18. Am at a loss which emergencies is she going to be responding wth a two seeter plane under Beautify Malawi innitative?

  19. Atumbukas have nothing to contribute but to accuse basi. Fools…muzipita kwanu. mukanavotera MCP coz Msowoya is vice wa Chakwera, but due to kupepera kwanuko munavotera mbava ya cashgate Mutila Banda kuti muziba. Anyani inu, musalongolole. 5yrs mumvetsa

  20. kuno kulibe pilot or wokonza ka 2 seater ko……hire my good lady pilot at zomba airwing and engineer and will save money….akanakhala jb, bm..jzu wagula kameneka mukanati mfufuzeni ………..whose gonna benefit iziwola zinyalala zomwe ndikusesa pano or city azipanga hire skip yao ikaonongeka….zikugwilizana chani kukongoletsa ndi mabvuto adzizizi

  21. 92 billion ija pano yayamba kugwira ntchito.the money was diposited in USA banks and the charity they are talking about is run by munthalikas children malawi this is your money question this foooooolll

  22. Malawians wake up! Don`t you see this is a mockery to our First Lady? Here is a whole group of Christian body donating an old two seater plane for emergencies in the First Lady`s duties regarding beautify Malawi. To begin with the donors are saying she moves around with too much personnel and so here they are donating two seater plane. Decoded message is: reduce number of cohorts for the love of saving hard Kwachas! Get it now? Now everyone knows there is no emergency whatsoever regarding beautify Malawi. Decoded message beautify Malawi if not a priority task worth involving more than one person! Get it?? Now the donors will provide pilot and Engineers and pay for services for two years. Decoded message, beautify Malawi should be completed by one person in two years time and thereafter think of something more positive. Additional decoded message: don`t waste government resources travelling by Malawi Army helicopters with a whole village of cohorts. And final decoded message: if anyone was wise they would say no but no thanks! The donors have just helped us differentiate apples and oranges. Reminds me of long time joke about the UK Queen asking Malawi President “who is your parents child that is neither your brother and nor your sister?”. The joke went to say the president asked each of the ministers and none could figure out and so they eventually asked Aleke Banda and only Aleke recognised “that is me”: and so the God bless their hearts, full of confidence they went to tell the president that the answer is “Aleke Banda”. The president confidently told the Queen the answer to her question was “Aleke Banda”. That was the test to separate apples and oranges then, but this time the Americans have succeeded in a test of their own! KKKKKKK

  23. But what exactly did the First Lady tell those well wishers? Beautifying Malawi and emergencies and pple gets moved to donate this. Did she tell them that she is also an emergency dr? What emergency pliz.
Malawi will have to wait for 5yrs for the truth.
This is a gift from her husband i guess. Too much money. They knowb its wrong . They know they did not work for that money. They know anthu kuno tikuvutika. Mzipatala mulibe mankhwala.
The fact is, there are no risks for emergencies in her charity. The descent thing you can do is to donate the aircraft and all the 2yrs benefits to Safemotherhood. Poti imatela paliponse, it will help save few lives ya amai bdi ana. Anthu asamabelekele mminda ndege ilipo. Anthu mmidzi asamavitike kupita kuchipatala ndithu. Saving few lives is bettter than nothing.

For those donors, pliz pay us a visit as a country them we will be able to show u real emergincies.People here die because of lacvk of basic things. Treatable conditions deteriorate sometimes bcoz the Ambulance is grounded a pt cannot be transfered.May be if u see what we are going thru, u ll donate more aircrafts for all the districts.

  24. Ikanakhala galimoto ya 2 seater mukanaivomera? Poti ndi ndege ima uluka ngakhale ndi ya mu 19 ngwebede basi tilandile nawo. Ndege imapatu ngati simuisamala. Fuel yako ya tsiku limodzi ingagule mankhwala ya mbiri muzipatala osati ndege yo pulumutsa anthu awiri oka in case of desaster. We want a donation-free Malawi. Ndi thawi ifeso tizipeleka ma gifts ku azungu.

  25. There is a very big catch here as the whole thing doesn’t make any sense!!!

The catch I think is in the word Christianity. The donor is a Christian organization and as Americans they could be very conservative or fundamentalist Christians insisting on the word of God or Christianity to be spread to every corner of Malawi and countering the spread of extreme Islam.

That plane will be very handy for the so called pilots and engineers. Am sure they will add another plane to accommodate just the pilots and the engineers so that they can criss cross the whole country within two years for whatever purpose they are after.

    Yes My speculations guys!!!

  26. So we don’t have pilots & engineers in this country who can ably fly and overhaul the plane? Eesh!! After 50 years of independence we still lack these people? My foot!! Komanso inu a Peter here are the very stupid whites who punished your late brother for buying that plane, and here you are with your whole motorcade of advisers receiving that useless plane!!! What benefits would that plane bring to Malawi ???? The more we change the Presidents in ths country, the more they don’t learn past mistakes! I thought and believed Peter is among all the past Presidents the most educated ever, but alas, I was making a mistake!! Mwa onse, anali ophunzira kwambiri ndi Bakili coz most of the time he used common sense which most of these so called educated ones lack!! Ndithudi!!!!!

  27. She Doing Long Job Becoz This Job Belong To City. Is She Going To Use This Plane To Clean Places. I Dnt Bliv That The President Failed To Advise Her

    1. Don’t you see guys that the USA Christian conservatives will be say against gay rights which as you know are being championed JB. The First Lady will be doing the opposite of what JB is doing, cleaning Malawi of anything that is perceived unchristian by USA Christian conservatives.

      My speculations again!!!

  28. This toy plane will obviously not cross the Atlantic on its own. It will need kubelekedwa.; so who pays for the cargo, my children’s taxes?

    1. It is you who should wake up. Honestly this thing is next to useless but typical of Malawians we are too polite to say No thank you coz we don’t need it. Beauty Malawi needs shovels and wheelbarrows and refuse collection vehicles if anything but a toy plane? I guess the maiden flight will be to Balaka landing at Khwisa school ground kkkkkkkkkkk

  29. Ayi tamva . Koma this is high maintenance equipment . Please tell us how you will maintain the plain after the 2 years window so that we poor Malawians can brace our selves with high tax burdens to meet the cost of maintaining the 2 seater plane . X rays and other hospital equipment would have been appreciated by many needy Malawians . Ndandutsapo

  30. The Truth will be revealed behind this Gesture and Aircraft! We don’t need this Aircraft,You use already MDF planes when need arises! This Aircraft is a burden on the Economy of Malawi…Peter Mutharika he will also be responsible for mantainance of this Aircraft, what is the source of the money that Peter Mutharika will use in maintaining the Aircraft…Am very sorry Amalawi, Tax-payers money is at risk, we have a rat in the groundnuts basket(khoswe ali mu dengu la mtedza)This is a repeat of the same problems Malawi is having hence lack of prudence to use financial resources! It could be better if Sugar was cheap for Malawians…

The Problem of Malawi to have dirty cities is not the problem of Malawians but the problem of city councils who fail to sweep and collect litter…You must not blame Malawians for dirty Cities,Ministry of Local Government is the one deserving big blame…

All the money goes to the Government without any development rendered to the people of Malawi…Eg Lack of Auditors is also major controbuting factor on dirty cities, City Councils are not properly audited…Federal Government is the good answer to all this mess! With Federal Government, municipality can be created in Mchinji and Mchinji will have the capacity to develop infrastructure such as Roads,Tourism can also be boosted, agriculture etc!

Government Collects money almost daily from ESCOM,Water Board,Road Traffic. Etc inturn no good service is rendered to the people of Malawi…

  31. I have got it! Damit! The donors are psychologists. Since September last year Malawians have been occupied discussing one problem after another. Cashgate, election rigging, now regionalism, nepotism, tribalism, federalism, etc. This is another way of diverting our attention and make jokes with a two seater plane. Someone has mention the movie “The gods must be crazy.” villagers spent hours and days discussing a bottle of coke from “heaven”. This it. Busy on a two seater. Forgetting our real problems for a while! These Americans! Thanks to you Americans.

  32. Malawians please do not be hood winked by these gestures. There is a huge cost to maintain a plane. Nobody donates a plane for nothing. The costs will be covered by Malawians tax payers. Why not use the money for a better cause. DO we really need a plane? At what cost? Malawians ought to be asking!! Wake up people. What disaster has occured in Malawi that warrants a plane to ferry supplies? If there is no disaster that requires immediate transport why are we accepting the donation? Can we afford it? I would like to know what the final cost for maintenance will be including insurance which I assume is going to be covered by tax payers. Cry my beloved country

  33. what? you said the donation has been made to assist the first lady and her trust to respond to emergencies on time.could please tell me some examples of emergencies? please am ignorant.

  34. Uuu! Mwati donation? I don’t believe it. I’ll not be surprised if Kwacha will start nose diving soon-if you know what I mean. Please lets wakeup from our sleep Malawians. Donation indeed.

  35. Some other things make no sense. How can a 2 seater assist the 1st lady to respond to emergency? Inde mphatso siyichepa koma zinazi ayi ndithu, ndi chimodzimodzi ndi kupatsidwa patapata yobowoka kuchidendene.

  36. It pains me a lot to take note that with barely 3 months in office our leader has started abusing his office by purchasing a mini aircraft
@ US$ 6.8 million (about K3billion) plus utility cost cover for the next two years. Just imagine if it was a donation no engineers and pilots could have been provided.

In this regard, the govt of Malawi is subjected to pay for all pilots, engineers and the craft’s other recurrent costs(ORC)

Is this the type of Malawi we need @ 50years?

  37. So you mean a pilot or 2 and engineer or two will be in the country for two years because of a two seater plane. Please say no thank you. They don’t choose what to give and this gift will make you spend more than the gift itself. I though you mean a plane that can take at least 20 people. Only if you tell me that it’s for you to fly out in Malawi it would have been ok but as it is tell them no thank you.

  38. That’s how cashgate started in 2005 soon after the formation of Dpp to solicit funds for the party.

All the 100 blue Toyota Hilux cars the dpp purchased aftermath were reported to have been donated from welwishaz.

  39. THANKS 4 THE SPIRIT OF DONATION BUT U WOULD HAVE TOLD THE DONOR 2 SELL IT & USE THE MONEY 2 BUY GARBAGE COLLECTION VEHICLES 4 ALL CITIES, SEWAGE TANKERS & BUILD MORE REFUSE DROPPING POINTS. OTHERWISE IT IS USELESS.

  40. Malawians celebrate receiving even meager gifts and for them this is the thing!! It is time announcements are made of big projects especially in neglected areas such as many parts of the northern Malawi which appear to be forgotten, wonder if DPP despite being very Lomwe inclined will help develop the north. I pity the people from the north – subjected to unpleasant education quota, least represented in senior government positions, and live in the most undeveloped part of Malawi and SADC, besides Congo DR. Northerners are the most resilient people in Africa, they tolerate lots of hardships. God bless these people and give them courage and wisdom to persevere and solder on in developing their constituencies and homeland.

  41. After this aircraft has done its work then Madame please donate it to MCP or DPP. You will see how they with thank you. Azibambo avula ma trousers kugubuduka kuthokoza

  42. Did Mrs Joyce have this luck, this country is now going to develop, you will agree with me. Mudzi transformation failed to get this nod

  43. What is the main objective of beautify Malawi Trust Kuwola zinyalala, kusesa, kukolopa and kukumba zimbuzi mpaka kuzikhalanso ma ermegency ofunira ndege?.Lets be realistic guys.

  44. Kandege kanu kothaithako kasakafike kuchigawo chapakati ndi kumwera chifukwa ka first lady kanuko kakadzangwa mudzanamizira the mighty CHEWAS AND TUMBUKAS kuti ndamene akagwetsa. Paja a DPP nzeru nzovu..zedi.

  45. Great work Nyasatimes for reporting as journalists not the other articles you write that simply reflect REGIONAL BIAS and TRIBAL this and that or NORTH MALAWI or NYIKA REPUBLIC! Keep this up

  46. …in addition to my post at 15, above; the aircraft is a VFR ONLY meaning it is certified for DAY TIME flights only and prohibited from flying in any icing conditions, i.e keep clear of cloud whilst remaining visual with the ground.
…the VVIP passenger occupies the only other seat from the pilot; meaning that should anything happen to the pilot; she will have to take control, fly and land the plane herself!
With an all up weight of less than 650kgs; I am sure I am not the only person worried sending the First Lady in this aircraft poses a serious risk!

  47. Ahlomwe kukonda kupatsidwa. You must work hard to produce your own. Dikirani, posachedwapa tikusiyirani ma mansion athu aku BT as a donation to the sweeping compaign of the first lady. Pajatu mumakonda kuwatchulatchula. Tikupatsani anthu aulesi komanso ansanje ndi atsankho inu. We will build better ones in the new republic. Are you happy.

  48. A two seater aircfraft to assist in what? Azikweramo ndi ndani? No security for the First Lady? If I was her I would have rejected it (for personal safety). As much as I hate this Presidency and all thats attached to it, she is the country’s first lady. Security wise its not acceptable but poti ndife ife…people won’t see anything wrong with it.

Beautify Malawi emergencies…zinazi anthu amakuonani kupepela. You should have class. As much as it appears to be a good deed its disrespectful penapake…2 seater? Aziyendetsa ndi Pitala kodi?

  49. Malawians we like debating alot, action zero, ndege donated instead of saying thank you and plan for its use, koma iyayi yachepa ndegeyi.Timange chipatala cha cancer Ku Lilongwe iyayi koma chipite Ku Blantyre, debating and debating zaka zikupita, cry my beloved country

  50. this is a headache to those charged with her security. its ok for going on a picnic with her husband but certainly not for official duties. my only hope is that such trips will be made in private capacity rather than official government duty.

  51. This is Total Madness!!! An Old Two seat plane for What?????? Who said Malawi is prone to disasters, and will experience disaster in the next two years???? Are these pilots on holiday or spy mission?? Just tell them to donate fuel money, their two year salaries and total maintanance cost for two years to BEAM Trust. Surely the cash can be used prudently than keeping the plane waiting for disaster to strike!!!! Mbuzi meeeee!!!!! Clapping hands for scrap!!

  52. How much aid and what kind of aid can a two-seater light plane deliver in emergency situations? How is such a plane ‘ideal and convenient’ for such a purpose? Questions, questions, questions…… The whole story does not make sense.

  53. millionaires buy these for their children in US as toys, but since this is Malawi,we take this as a great achievement. How old is it anyway? Congratulations Madam,it will add to the beauty of our country.

  54. This type of plane was last made in the 1960s, I will not be surprised if this particular one is as old as Malawi 50years old. (Not safe, kotayra)

    1. IWEYO KWANU ALI NDI NDEGE NDANI? BWANJI KUFUNA KUCHULUKA NZERU FOTSEKI!!!!
AMANU A JOYCE ADALIKONKO ALANDILAKO CHIYANI? BOLA NDEGE THAN TO BE HUMILIATED BY MRS KAGAME

  55. Malawians are beggars & beggars receive anything. Is plane a priority in distaster preparedness? My foot! Ask those affected in Nsanje will tell u what it is. Congrats Madam President. Hope it will serve the Lomwe better since it is government of the Lomwe by the Lomwe & for the Lomwe. Goodall & cohorts are just bulldozers to clear the road for the Lomwe. Sorry Malawians thus reality & gospel truth. Mulhako Woyee!

  56. Those of us who r in the aviation indusry know that a two seater aircraft does not have a good payload, and if u r saying they will maintain the aircraft for two years and leave it to her Charity then she will suffer bcoz as the plane gets order so does the maintenance costs! The other fact is that it will b impossible for the First Lady to fly in that small plane! We cannot let her in a tiny aircraft with the pilot alone!

  57. To the public, this is a donation but there are nasty hidden agendas attached. Zizaziwika when amuna ake gets out of power

  58. A Nyasa nkhani iyi mwalembako ngati atolankhani. Kodi mwayambano ma weekend classes a journalism as I advised you. Mosakondera, Mosachosera, Moapanda mantha. Limbikirani sukulu.

    1. inu osapereka magalimotoyo bwanji? Olo alo akanakala kuti apereka njinga bolabe kusiyana ndi inu mumamana ndi madzi okumwa omwe

    1. Za zii, can a normal person get excited ndikandege kopanda ntchitho pomwe people are dying in hospitals. Useless donation to useless DPP. I would have been happy if it was a block of girls’ hostel fotseki together with the donors of this aircraft. Agalu alomwe opanda nzeru plus you Abiti Mtila.

      1. and a beautify Malawi Trust getting a plane for ‘disaster’..yes disaster need to be beautified too hahahaah
…… and security wise, can the First lady be aboard alone with just the pilot only protocol wise?..just wondering…
