Akweni hosts Chitipa United FC, offers them accomodaton, food

Newly promoted Chitipa United FC has started off a series of football engagements in the south on a good note as Mulanje South MP Patricia Kaliati offered accomodation to the team for free at her lodge in Mulanje and gave it free food.

In an interview Friday, Kaliati, the maverick Democratic Progressive Party powerful politician confirmed.

“Actually I am in Mulanje with the team right now. They were playing my Mulanje West team and my team has just won 4-1,” said Kaliati.

The former Civic Education minister said she can do everything just for her people in Mulanje West.

“I did all that because of my people in Mulanje West. When I read in newspapers that Chitipa United FC would be coming here in Mulanje, I contacted them so that they play my team.

“I don’t want the youth in Mulanje West to be idle because they can be engaged in beer drinking or sexual activities which is bad for their health,” she said.

She described the match as very entertaining and thanked Chitipa United for taking up her offer.

The game between Chitipa United and Mulanje West team comes at a time when the DPP led government is increasingly accused of tribalism and nepotism and the game might have shown that people of Mulanje and Chitipa are one and are all Malawians after all.

Kaliati said Chitipa United donated jerseys to her team.

United faces tough games on Saturday and Sunday when they meet Bet Wizards and Blantyre United respectively.

Kaliati said her constituents enjoyed watching Chitipa United training at Namulenga Primary School Ground.

This is one of the most tribalistic people in Malawi and you cannot fool all of us. For once have done something better but this is mainly for yourself to buy sympathy for being booted out of the cabinet. We know you well Akweni. You can fool some people but not all the people.
