Albino abductor commits suicide, Malawi Police claims he jumped from moving car

A 19 year Joseph Andiwochi who was arrested by Machinga Police  Thursday last week has committed suicide by jumping from a moving police vehicle on his way to Zomba.

Tuesday morning where he was expected to appear before court to answer abduction charges.

Machinga Police has confirmed the suicide which took place near Mandevu Farms, a kilometer from Machinga Boma.

Machinga Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gideon Nahumu said, Andiwochi was being transported to Zomba Senior Resident Magistrates Court where he was expected to enter plea in an abduction case.

The suspect jumped from a moving police Land Cruiser in the company of armed police officers who escorted him.

According to Machinga Police, Andiwochi and two other accomplices abducted a two year old albino girl at Muluku village, Sub Chief Mchinguza in the district.

The abducted girl was in the company of her ten year old sister who is also an albino when their mother was away.

The ten year old sister raised an alarm that compelled villages to chase the abductors until Andiwochi was apprehended while his accomplices Kamanga Likhutu and Sinoya Likhutu fled and are still at large.

The baby girl was dumped in a bush and was recovered and handed back to her mother.

Postmortem at Machinga District Hospital indicated that Andiwochi died due to severe head injuries. Andiwochi’s body is in the mortuary at Machinga District Hospital.

More than 13 people have been arrested in Machinga in connection with albino abduction, exhuming of graves and possession of human bones.

  1. Well done the Malawi Police. Nothing is fishy here and the criminal chose to die that way. These are unwanted pple among the communities. Pliz hunt them all including those at large. No mercy do ur good job The Malawi Police.

  2. It sounds suspicious! In many pictures and physically I have seen such suspects seated in between armed police officers while handcuffed. Can a suspect really jump in such circumstances without the officers noticing in time to prevent it? It is unbelievable especially when the reason of the armed officers’ presence in the vehicle is actually to prevent the handcuffed suspect from jumping off the vehicle and running away! Things are not adding up here. The suspect may have gone with vital information that could have been used to fight crime. Is this really true? It is doubtful especially that we have had similar cases before and people would expect our police service to learn from past mistakes. Kaya kaya something could be fishy here!!!!!!!

  4. Let him go to hail, the life that he took was valuable to the bereived. Others should emulate this.

  5. a 19 year old boy cannot be the ‘owner’ of such a collosal scheme. there must be some big fella ‘tucked’ in somewhere, possibly one of the diphiphi gurus in the line of peter mathanyula, noel masangwi and the list goes on!!!!!!!

  6. i would love if the police could only keep suspects for the sake of investigating further and later provide a forum to villages of concern for appropriate retalliation to provide a lesson to those who may be at large on similar offences. That can help in saving Gvt money.

  7. Wachita bwino kaya a polisi amupha amuchita bwino naye awo momwe kuphedwa kumawawira pamene amafuna kukapha mwana wa mwini osalakwa sankamva chisoni , Athu mkumva chisoni ndi za ziii, kupha muthu osakulakwira moti mwanayo akanakamcheka pakhosi osamva chisoni kuti mwana wawalakwira chiyani ndiye amene anawauza kuti asalimbikire sukulu, anathawira mkalasi ndi cholinga choti azizapha athu wachita bwino choipa chisata mwini.

  8. The world will be a better place without him its good that he died without wasting tax payers money with long and tidious trials.

For the police how do they transport suspects in an open vehicle without canopy? Its a traffic fine to carry passanger in a pick up like land cruiser because once the vehicle is involved in accident passangers at the back will not survive. This is awake up call the whole police not to carry susoects, prisoners or any offender in an open back thus homicidal.

  9. thank you apolisi! You have saved resources that would have gone to this case. On second thoughts….could this be a cover up by some big fish who wouldn’t have liked to mentioned by this suspect?

  10. Ndi geni ya a big man cha bc eleku and seems the guy mentioned the big man nde poti ali pa ubale waukazembe ndi bwana wa mkulu angokonza kut umbon usowe, tizinamizidwa ngat anaaaaa

  11. I smell foul play….f someone wants to commit suicide will surely use a 100% efficient way of taking his life and from wat I know this wasnt so a man in hs situation wouldn’t use this.

  12. Andiwochi anali womagwidwa ndi unyulo kapena ayi? How come munthu ali mu unyolo to jump from a vehecle on run? If nt in hand calf? No truth in the issue.

  13. move…..iyi….akubisa munthu wankulu…wasa uza kuti..umboni ubisike….ingonenani kuti wadumpha mgalimoto…. malawi sadzatheka….

  14. DPP SHOULD EXPLAIN THIS. A FISH IS SMELLING HERE. JUMPING OUT IN THE HANDS OF THE POLICE. SHAME.

  16. Govt should bring back the death penalty to stop the killing of albinos. Criminals are no longer afraid to kill.

  17. I would only believe if i could see his dead body. 2 There is some one they are avoiding revealing his name in the albino business, Malawi the poorest country in the world

  18. Uchitsiru apolisi mpaka kujowa zonama basi amenewo alangidwe nawonso busy kupanga za commeration of arrest rubbish nonse Ku headquarters

  19. What will happen to the police who have ‘fled’ this albino killer/abductor. If in other countries the police would be tasked for negligence and abuse of office. The abductor did not jump like lightening. They saw him changing positions (kuchalilira ulendo). Our trained/professional police just watching with their chimfuti. I am sure the new IG will not tolerate this stupidity

  20. Communities, police are just wasting time and resources arresting the albino killers. Its only K20,000 fine if one kills or abduct an albino and yet the community and police spent over K20,000. The Mangochi judge must be commended informing us that killing an albino is not a serious case. And again CSOs and Kaliati are quite. If it were rape you would have heard them making noise on the judge. Aluta continua Mangochi judge.

  21. Thanks Nyasatimes for releasing the names of the suspects at least we know them and I feel no sorrow for this death it’s the reward of crime

  22. Nothing police could explain these people deserve to die kaya anamukankha kaya analumpha yekha that is immaterial he deserves to die period.anthu oipa amenewa!bravo police for the work well done.Next time just shoot them ma court a Malawi ndi a fake you can not trust them.Someone steals 63,000,000 Malawi Kwacha,3 yEARS IMPRISONMENT stealing a goat 25 years IMPRISONMENT SHAME!!! Kill them anzanu adzisowa mtendere ndi inu.CASE CLOSED!!! No AUTOPSY NO NOTHING.

  23. It surprises me how murder suspects ‘jump from a moving car’. We have heard this before, but I have never believed such stories. Common sense tells me that such murder suspects should be highly guarded, in fact they should be transported in armoured vehicles if need be.

You cannot transport such suspects in an open pick-up vehicle, and leave them with room to stand up, walk to the edge of the vehicle and jump… that simply sounds like fiction. My suspicion is that such cases are connected to some influential individuals, who connive with Police to eliminate anything that may link the case to them. This is one of them. Next time, if you have to do that, do it like professionals. This is amateurish.

  24. 13 enawo afunika adunpheso mugalimotoyo, Bravo Police apite mmodzi modzi chomcho, mulibenso vuto pamenepo a Police, mawa tikufuna anyasa mutiuze kuti wina wadzimangilira mu Cell, apite ndinthu anthu osafuna kukhala ndianthu anzawo amenewa, pany……., musatitukwanitse pano tidabona anzanu, Peter Uwapatse ma Promotion amene amapelekeza chitsiluchi ku Court uyambile wankulu wama Proscutor pa Mangochi Police akuitha!!!!!

    1. Hardcores in our prisons are not reformable. Please prison service sankhani enawo aakaalumphe mu galimoto liikuyenda.

  25. There is more to this story than what meets the eye. It is possible that “forces that be” (Possibly in DPP) are connected with albino abductions. They may have forced the Police to push the suspect out of a moving vehicle to cover their evil schemes. DPP is full of evil people.

  26. ndebwino atleast tachepetsa umbanda koma zikanakhala bwino akagwidwa kuwafinya kuti awulule komwe akumakawapatsako aaa

  30. Are there no door locks on police vehicles? What is the point of two armed police officers escorting a prisoner when he is able to jump out of the car? This is pathetic! The Malawi police should be ashamed of themselves. They need to beef up their security. Almost daily we read of failings by the police. They are a laugh a minute.

  31. hahahaha! nyasaland, the only place on earth where hardcore criminals are transported in open vehicles. this just opens up conspiracy theories about whether or not he was pushed to keep him from talking….

  32. The police should be charged with negligence of duties. There is no way this could happen if the officers really know their work.

  33. Wachita bwino kufa. This has to come to a stop. Okupha, okuba ndibwino kumawaotcha. Anthu oyipa.

  34. A polisi mukutidabwitsa kagwilidwe kanu ka ntchito. Mwinatu munachita kumuponya powopa kuti awulula anzake omwe amachita nawo zinthu zoipazi

  35. Tangonenani apolice kuti watifera ngati momwe tinaphera Matafale tinamenya kwambiri paja human rights kwa ife ndi mbiri chabe

  36. Investigate this case please, may be the Police did this deliberately to cover the owner of the move. Money talking in Malawi. Shame on them, How can an escorted suspect jump from the vehicle? How was the sitting plan in that vehicle. Wake up Malawi Police.

  37. it smells fishy .I thought they are transferred handcuffed to the car rails.Police tell us nothing but the whole truth. It looks like a particular Big KAHUNA is behind this scheme. There is nothing hidden under the sun that will not be revealed.

  38. Zitheka bwanji kujowa, samamuona kuti atha kujowa????????? akungofuna kusokoneza umboni, kuopa kutchulidwa, mwina wachita kukankhidwa?

  39. With a big NO he did not jump to his death, these people are shielding some big FISH in the albino business.Nkhanga zaona.

  40. Apolice athuwa akuoneka kuti sanaphuzitsidwe mwa ukadaulo, munthu angadumphe m’galimoto iwo ali momwemo, chilipo chilipo chilipo.

  41. Police, just kill these idiots then throw them out of a moving vehicle and claim they committed suicide. Tax payers money should not be wasted on these devils, I hope he suffered slow death. Such a dog!!!

  42. This reminds me of Chibonga who jumped the police vehicle as he was accused of killing the late Gen. Chigawa. I am wondering, how are suspects transported, with their hands handcuffed or what? Can’t the police answer the charges of negligence?

  43. Jumping in the presence of armed police???? what security is that? was the policeman/woman there symbolically or to secure the suspect?? come on mw police! u can do better!
