Alliance Capital Stars displace Thunder Queens: Rainbow Paints League
Alliance Capital Stars stepped up a gear and beat Gerald Tasaukadala in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League comfortably by 68 goals to 25 at Blantyre Youth Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Led by veteran coach Mary Waya, Alliance got off to a terrific start, and were 20-6 ahead at the end of the first quarter.
Coach Mary Waya had strong words with her team during the break, and they came back more strongly in the second quarter. They were 37-10 ahead at halftime and they just got better and better.
Memory for Alliance, showed her class with some outstanding intercepts, and feisty goal attack as she kept the goals flowing. At the other end of the court, Gerald Tasaukadala goal defender made life difficult for Alliance shooters, but she could not stand the heat.
Waya said she had expected her side to start well, and she was pleased with the performance from her girls.
“It was a very good match,” she said.
Alliance victory means they have displaced Thunder Queens on third position with 27 points from 13 games, while Thunder have 24 points from 10 games.
However, Thunder Queens have a chance to take back its position on Thursday as they play Shizaella Stars at BYC.
In another encounter on Thursday, Kukoma Diamonds have another chance to widen the lead further as they take on Chilomoni Sisters.
Diamonds are on the summit table with 36 points, while Tigresses are coming second with 30 points.
However, Diamonds have played 13 games, while Tigresses have played 11 games.
Chitakale Sisters are still stuck on the tail of the table with 3 points.
