Alliance One donates two school blocks in Kasungu

As part of corporate social Responsibility and giving back Alliance One Tobacco Malawi Limited has donated two school blocks to Jati and Wanyala primary schools in Kasungu district.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Kasungu this week, Alliance One Agronomy Services Administrator, Hetherwick Khuzenje said the company is complementing government efforts in improving education standards in the country by creating good learning environment.

”The project aims at improving children’s learning environment so that they are motivated and encouraged to stay in school. This is one way of many ways Alliance One aims to address child labour issues among our contracted grower base” Khuzenje said.

He added ”Alliance One through its social responsilibilty aims to work hand in hand with all stakeholders and to contribute to the Government’s efforts to improve education standards in the country”.

Khuzenje also said the company was compelled to construct two school blocks due to increased community demand,lack of learning space and low enrollment in the area.

Distrist Education Manager for Kasungu Rocky Hausi hailed Alliance One for their contribution towards improving education standards in the country.

”We are very grateful for what the company has done in the district, we have been struggling to provide good learning environment it is our hope that this will improve enrollment” said Hausi.

The two projects have costed Alliance One atotal of K15 million with Jati primary costing K9million and Wanyala K6million.  The two schools have have each been furnished with 100 desks ,two teachers working tables and chairs.
