I was ambushed to join DPP but now I rejoin MCP – Former Minister Chirwa
Former cabinet minister Khumbo Chirwa has dumped ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and rejoined Malawi Congress Party (MCP) saying he was ambushed to join DPP.
Chirwa officially rejoined MCP on Saturday.
He claimed he was announced to have been amongst people who joined DPP during a rally at Masintha ground in Lilongwe recently yet he was tricked to be at the venue.
“I was told the President wanted to meet me in private and I accepted since I once served as a cabinet minister during reign of his brother the late Bingu wa Mutharika but I was shocked to hear my name on the podium that I have joined DPP,” said Chirwa.
Chirwa said his speech at the podium was in “parables” because he was tricked.
But his claims have been rubbished by DPP northern region chair, Kenneth Sanga, saying he is being opportunistic,
“He has assessed his chances of contesting for DPP in Nkhatabay South East constituency and realised we have other strong candidate and decided to join MCP,” said Sanga.
Sanga said Chirwa is a political spent force and should not even worry DPP.
