Anglican Bishop calls for relevance of Christianity
Just three weeks after he urged the Clergy in the Anglican Church to practice what they preach, the Right Reverend Brighton Vitta Malasa, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire, has asked his flock to pay attention to the needs of others.
In an interview from Zimbabwe, Bishop Malasa said he also asked the faithful to pray for one another, the Church and the country, because they are salt and light of the world where justice, peace and freedom should always prevail.
“When people chose to be greedy, jealousy, self-centeredness and corrupt, things does not work out for the majority, so we should be praying that this vice should go, and that every person should appreciate the need of the other,” said the Rt. Rev. Malasa.
The Bishop explained that Christianity is irrelevant when its followers do not show love, mercy, humility, peace and compassion on others, adding that the clergy have to cultivate a spirit of servant leadership.
“Inspired by the teaching in St. Luke 10:25-37 that encourages people to “Go and Do Likewise”, a good example in the Christian life worthy emulating, the Anglican Diocese of Upper Shire chose ‘Go and Do Likewise’ as the theme of this year.
“This theme is propelling the Diocese in its activities, and we would want the Clergy cultivate a spirit of servant leadership by been exemplary and practicing what they preach in order to serve their flock with diligence, and bring peace and harmony,” said Bishop Malasa.
The Bishop reiterated that Christians should always make sure that they serve the interests of the underprivileged and strive to be the voice for the voiceless.
“But, above all, walk the talk,” said Bishop Malasa, adding; “We are the salt and light of the world where justice, peace and freedom should always prevail”.
