APM gives Malawi ministers ultimatum to explore investment areas
Malawi’s President Peter Mutharika, has given a 30-day ultimatum to ministers and principal secretaries to explore areas of investment within their respective ministries.
Mutharika made the remarks on Tuesday August 12 in Lilongwe when he addressed the media two days after his return from Washington where he attended the US-African leaders’ summit.
He said the findings from all ministries should be chanelled to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for scrutiny.
” I want all the reports to reach my desk not later than 60 days. We want to encourage investors as well as funding from our partners in the western countries so that they can come and invest in these areas,” he said.
“I call upon officers in all the ministries to come up with a project that would attract foreign investors,” said Mutharika.
While attending the US-Africa summit, President Mutharika said he met several investors who showed interest to invest in the country’s areas of health, mining, ICT, education, energy and infrastructure among others.
