Archbishop Ziyaye tells Catholics to vote to shape Malawi

Archbishop of the Catholic Church’s  Lilongwe Archdiocese,  His Grace Tarsizius Ziyaye, has urged the church’s faithful  to view the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections as  opportunity of reshaping the future of the country.

Ziyaye: Be guided by the pastroal letter on how to elect a good leader

He said this on Saturday at Area 2 in Lilongwe when  he opened Bishop Nervi Media Centre.

Ziyaye said as eligible voters , people should  be guided by the Pastoral letter which was released earlier in the year on how to elect a good leader.

“Am appealing to you to keep your voter registration slip safely to enable you exercise your democratic right to vote for a leader of your choice in the next elections,” Archbishop told them.

Ziyaye said Malawians need to choose a leader who will be able to serve them and provide their basic needs all the time.

The Archbishop pointed of the church would continue promoting social teaching of the church to its members so that they should be on top of things.

He said Malawians should be encouraged to pray for the nation that the elections should be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

“We should pray to God so that he should continue blessing the country in its endeavours,” Ziyaye said.

Voter registration exercise for the May 2019 elections ended on Friday on November 9, 2018

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will release the final figures of the registered voters soon.

Although some places like Lilongwe, Kasungu and Blantyre reported to have registered few voters compared the projected figures.

There were calls for MEC go reopened the registration exercise in some districts which had face some challenges during the registration process but MEC has not made any firm stand regarding the request yet.

Various electoral stakeholders have voiced their concern on the retrieved registration machine which was found in Mozambique after it went missing on its way to Mwanza.

A week later, another registration machine went missing in Mzuzu and is yet to be recovered after being reported to Police.

Thought it was the Bishops who were under house arrest in Lilongwe and later Dr Kamuzu Banda agreed that we should have a referendum in Malawi which led to Multi party? It is now the Catholic Bishops in DRC who have forced Kabila to resign.

When it suits them right, politicians would want us believe that religious leaders should not be involved in politics. Their place is nowhere else but the pulpit. Their role is to bring lost souls to salvation. As a believer, it is hard to separate religion from politics. Due to our shallow understanding of the two topics, we have been played by politicians to take their side on the subject as it suits them. Indeed people perish for lack of knowledge. For many of us, religion provide the foundation for morality. For how do we know corruption, stealing, killing, oppressing the… Read more »

I am Catholic, and I think our Lord Bishops are now confusing us. The article says we should take the elections as an opportunity to reshape our country. That statement is already anti-DPP. It means DPP has failed to put our country in shape. There are other incidences that suggest that our Lord Bishops themselves are anti-DPP. 1. When the First Lady, through her BEAM trust tried to assist Providence Secondary School under the Catholic Church following the fire that gutted a hostel at the school, the Arch Bishop of Blantyre, Bishop Msusa, refused the donation, saying the Church had… Read more »

UTM is a Roman Catholic Church party and this is undisputed. Vatican is funding UTM and this too is undisputed. A Catholic Bishop is involved in killing of a person with Albinism this is undisputed also. Masangwi killed Edward Chasowa a polytechnic 4th year Mechanical Engineer another undisputed killing. The choice is yours to rate UTM/Catholics

What the Bishop forgot to tell the faithful is how his church will stop the Catholic Clergy’s involvement in the killing of Albinos and how he is intending to compensate the Masambuka family.
