Artists unite for mothers day beach festival
One Jamaican dance-hall artist Beenie Man once rhymed in a collaboration with compatriot Elephant Man-If I never mama, mi nuh born-(If I never have no mother I would not have born) justifying importance of a mother to life.
Its undeniable fact that a mother’s love has played a big role in our upbringing and it’s of no surprise when artists unite to recognize her bounty affection.
With the summer time taking pick in Malawi, who would love to miss the unification of local and international artists in celebration of Mother’s Day?
The scene is expected to be set on shores of blue waters of Lake Malawi, Livingstonia Beach, Salima in particular, as six local musicians headline a three-day festival to be spiced up with several beach activities.
The artists, Lucius Banda, Tay Grin, Maskal, Theo Thomson, Skeffa Chimoto and Black Missionaries will lead a contingent of other artists in the likes of BarryOne, Sonye, Ndingo Brothers, Lucky Stars, Wendy Harawa, Rina, Tigris, Mafunyeta, Favoured Sisters, Lulu, Grace Chinga and Ethel Kamwendo-Banda.
Three Zambian artists Dali Soul, Oga Family and Chika are expected to perform during the show.
“We just want people to have fun as they celebrate the wonderful things their mothers have done. We all know a mother is an important person in life and it will be a loss not to give them such recognition, that is why we are having such musical showcase,” said one of the organizers Kennedy Nkombezi.
According to Nkombezi, the show, apart from music, will be spiced up by traditional dances, beach games, competitions among other activities designed to redden the event.
“This something of different type, having such bunch of artists performing it’s not a joke. We are having gospel as well as secular artists so that people should not have an excuse. Its summer and time to celebrate the importance of one’s mother in life,” Nkombezi added.
The show dubbed Mother’s Day music festival is one of the biggest music festivals the country is set to witness this summer with Lake of Stars and Blantyre Arts Festival on the cards. And the show has been sponsored by Airtel, Carlsberg, The Weekend Times, Jam Networks, Star Radio, Capital FM, MBC, Multichoice Malawi and Ministry of Tourism.
It’s that time of the year again feel the dusty breeze of warm summer sun as the melancholy melodies from warm heart of Africa cool the heat off you as you swag through the beach of Livingstonia beach in joyous mood. Let’s celebrate our mothers’ greatest love with pride and joy.
