Association of People with Albinism in Malawi to beef up security
The Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) says it is working towards improving the security and rights of People with Albinism.
APAM President, Overstone Mkwapatira Kondowe, said they are looking for innovative solutions to deal with the problem of attacks on people with albinism including exhumation of their body parts.
“We are looking at innovative solutions which mean that evidence will have to include domains outside the albinism population,” said Kondowe.
Kondowe further said that they will be able to provide data that looks at the personal security of albinos and security devices required to enhance their safety.
“We are breaking new ground and the results will follow after commissioning research on the impact factor. It is therefore important that we have the data available to provide these answers from our system which we cannot provide now,” Kondowe said.
According to recent reports, since November 2014, 21 people with albinism have been killed in Malawi with 121 ablino attacks recorded countrywide.
