The young Muluzi made the promise at St Augustine III in Mangochi where he conducted a campaign rally on Sunday.

Muluzi told the gathering that the DPP-UDF alliance wants to eliminate hunger and poverty completely in the next five years.

He said the Peter  Mutharika has already introduced the K35 000 monthly allowances targeting one million households to help mitigate the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the next six months.

“Mutharika is the most considerate leader, our government will always priotise the welfare of poor people, vote us in power so that together we may form good Malawi,” he said.

On education, the UDF president said they will ensure they provide quality education in the Eastern Region which has high dropout rates due to neglect by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) regime to construct more schools.

“MCP ignored people from this Region, they violated the right to education by deliberately constructing few schools, most schools here are owned by the Catholic church and other organisations,” he explained.

Taking her turn, UDF’s vice president for the Region, Lilian Patel asked people to vote for the DPP/UDF alliance so that they may continue to enjoy the fruits of democracy.

She said with Atupele in government, people from the region should be assured of development projects.

“Let’s not make mistakes by voting for other parties here, DPP-UDF is planning to construct five star hotel and airport, please let’s not lose such opportunity,” she said.

Traditional Authority (T/A) Mponda commended Mutharika for picking Muluzi as his running mate saying it signifies great honour to the people of the Eastern Region.

“I would like to commend Mutharika for picking Atupele Muluzi to be his running, I can assure him that the people of Mangochi will surely vote for him considering the fact that Mutharika has also brought several developments here,” he added.

Malawi goes to the polls on June 23 with Mutharika and Muluzi set to tussle with Tonse Alliance team of Lazarus Chakwera of MCP and Saulos Chilima of UTM as his running mate.

The other candidate is of  Mbakuwaku Movement for Democracy’s (MMD) Peter Kuwani and his running mate, Archibald Kalawang’oma.

Atupele is a very THICK dog. You talk of MCP not building enough schools. How long ago was MCP in government? You’ve been (udf/dpp) in government pretty much the same length of time as MCP, why did you not build the said schools or how many have you constructed so far? And a Patel mukuti airport etc, do you mean the stones that NTCHONA goes round the country planting? Anthu inu ndi mbuzi kwabasi. Nyambitani zokubazo in these remaining few days.

Young Muluzi should really be ashamed of himself. If he can say these things without any shame, then we should be very concerned as a nation. He would be a lying VP who would say anything to defend and protect bad governance. How do you blame someone else for something your party, your dad and your coalition partner failed to do? This might look simple now but is an indication of what will happen if Malawians put him in power. He is someone who will take no responsibility for his actions. Malawians, let us reject such people. There is no… Read more »

It is true most schools during Kamuzu were missionaries, not govt built. Osamadana ndi chilungamo . Best secondary schools were missionaries, better hospitals were missionaries, well built primary schools were missionaries.

Kodi anthu enanu mukamanama simuchita manyazi? U r busy blaming MCP kuti they deliberately constructed few schools, what did UDF, DPP since democracy do? At least MCP did something even if its a few as you claim, but when UDF and then later DPP took over, u must have realised this then and therefore should have taken actions accordingly but u didn’t and now u r busy castigating the oppositions where u have failed. U must think Malawians are idiots to fall for your cheap politics and uncertified campaign, no wonder when you came up with the issue of fertiliser… Read more »
