Bagus says Chikhwawa remains PP stronghold despite Mia quitting

Ruling People’s Party (PP) National Organizing Secretary Salim Bagus has said the party remains strong in Chikhwawa Mkombezi despite the departure of Mohammad Sidik Mia who was also Vice President for the south.

Bagus said this during a rally which the party organized on Saturday at Ngabu Community Centre ground to unveil its shadow Member of Parliament (MP) Ben Khuleya.

“The party here was already strong because the body structure is still working together as everyone here knows what Dr. Joyce Banda wants. If one leaves the party is normal that some people do follow the defector,” he said.

He said 90 percent of membership of PP and structures has remained with the party despite Mia’s resignation from the party.

Bagus urged the electorates in Mkombezi to vote for Khuleya if they want to realize meaningful development in their area.

“I want to appeal to you that you should vote for Khuleya during the forthcoming tripartite poll. Don’t be cheated by anyone to vote for him here in Mkombezi,” said Bagus.

He said when the party politburo heard about Mia’s resignation it decided to choose Khuleya who was then its shadow ward councilor to stand as its MP ahead of May 20, 2014 tripartite elections.

Speaking to the gathering Khuleya claims that for the past five months he has been controlling party at higher level although he was then shadow councilor for the party.

“I know that everyone here has welcomed my candidature to stand as MP. People of Mkombezi are fed up with greedy and nomadic politicians,” said Khuleya.

He assured people of Mkombezi  that President Banda has pledged to continue her support to Mkombezi constituency despite Mia’s departure from the ruling party.
