Bikiko is MCP candidate for Lilongwe mayoral polls: DPP maintains incumbent Chapondera
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is maintaining its councillor Dr Desmond Bikoko as candidate to contest for the title of Mayor of Lilongwe to challenge Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilor for Kawale 1 Ward Willie Chipondera.

Chapondera won the title in July 2014 after he defeated the same Bikoko with 16 votes to 14.
“DPP councillors and members of parliament in the city [of Lilongwe] should support Bikoko not for politics but for the sake if development in the capital,” said MCP director of elections Maxwell Thyolera.
DPP is reportedly going to support Chapondera to continue.
There were suggestions that DPP will consider to back deputy mayor Akwame Bandawe, who is an independent councillor on paper but supports the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the elections for Blantyre City will be conducted on Monday, January 9 at the Civic Centre offices starting from 09.00am.
DPP council Louis Ngalande confirmed maneuvering for the position of mayor and has the backing of the party and its President Peter Mutharika.
The ruling party has told its councillors and MPs to back Ngalande to depose the people’s favourite current Mayor Noel Chalamanda, an independent councillor.
Others who may seek nomination for deputy mayor include Getrude Chirambo and and Alinane George Chipwete.

The DPP has hanged up against Noel, who the people of Blantyre want. This is to enable corrupt activity at BCC which has been thwarted by Noel.
