Blantyre Archdiocese loses Fr Likupe

Blantyre Archdiocese of the Catholic Church has lost Fr. Dr. Raymond Likupe who until his death was a lecturer at the Chancellor College in Zomba.

“The Catholic Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi regrets to announce the death of Fr. Raymond Likupe, a priest of the Archdiocese of Blantyre.   Fr. Likupe passed away at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in the early hours of today (Monday), 7th November, 2011 having been taken to the hospital on Saturday, 5th November,” reads a statement from the Episcopal Conference of Malawi sent to various institutions.

Fr. was born on 21st July, 1961 and hailed from Khomera Village, T/A Dambe, Mwanza District.  He was ordained priest on 15th July, 1990 and served at Ntenje Parish, Kachebere Major Seminary and was lecturing at Chancellor College of the University of Malawi at the time of his death.

Burial Mass will be on Tuesday, 8th November, 2011, at Limbe Cathedral starting from 10.00 am.

Recently the diocese also lost Fr. Alex Reid and Fr. Alexander Teputepu. Fr. Teputepu died also at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. Hospital and church sources say that the priest died due to carelessness of hospital personnel because he was given over dosage of medicine.
