Blantyre romps Zomba United to move closer to TNM leaders

Blantyre United moved to two points behind defending champions and leaders Escom United with a 4 – 1 drubbing of relegation bound Zomba United on the last day of TNM Super League action for 2011.

Goals from Abraham Kamwendo, Tizyowere Kumwenda, Sunday Kamuyang’ana and Jimmy Chikulekule made sure of maximum points while Wid Umali pulled one as a consolation.

The result means Blantyre United have finished the year with 42 points, 2 behind Escom.

The team’s technical director Lawson Nakoma told Nyasa Timesafter the game that it is a good finish to 2011 for the team and that they will continue working hard in 2012.

“We started slowly in this game but picked up pace as the game progressed and we are happy to have bagged maximum 3 points,” he said.

Zomba United coach Tony Mhone said his team only trained from Thursday and his players lacked match fitnesss.

“We didn’t play well today but we will work hard in the remaining three  games,” he said.

Elsewhere

While Blantyre United were having a good day, there was a stalemate at the Balaka stadium in a game involving Mighty Wanderers and Civo United.

The game ended goalless but Wanderers coach Franco Ndawa says it was not a bad result because it was generally a fair game.

“A point is better than nothing, but we have to work hard because the title battle is not yet over,” he said.

His counterpart Alex Masanjala shared Ndawa’s sentiments that it was a balanced game.

They say “revenge is a dish best served cold” and that’s exactly what Epac FC did to Blue Eagles at the Silver stadium.

Ishmael Thindwa scored the only goal of the game to revenge on what the Eagles did in the first round when they won with the same margin.

The result means Epac have surged 5 points behind leaders Escom.

In the Mzuzu derby,Moyale proved to be good by far against relegation bound Embangweni United with a 5 – 0 thumping at the Mzuzu stadium.

Andy Simukonda scored a hat trick with the other two goals from Chrispin Fukizi.
