Blantyre United take lead of Malawi second tier league
Former Malawi TNM Super League side Blantyre United’s campaign to return to the top flight football league, is on the right track as they take the top spot in the 22-team Premier Division sponsored by Masters Security Services.
Blantyre United, who were 4th ahead of their assignments last weekend, now lead the second tier football league with 34 points from 17 games after winning both their fixtures against Michiru Madrid 2-1 at BAT Ground on Friday and BNC Produsak 1-0 on Sunday at Chiwembe.
Coming hot on their heels are MDF Marine on second position with 32 points from 16 games while Mitra Icons are third with 31 points from 15 games.
The Marines and Mitra Icons stumble after losing their fixtures against Chikwawa United 0-2 and Hardknockers 0-1 respectively.
Tying on 29 points but separated by goal difference are Nchalo United (4th) Cobbe Barracks (5th) and Chikwawa United (6th). All three are former TNM Super League sides.
The race will still be hot and there are six contenders for the top spot that will earn a place in the TNM Super League.
Blantyre United have played 17 games, MDF Marine 16, Mitra Icons 15 Nchalo 18, Cobbe Barracks 15 and Chikwawa 16.
