Innocent Bokosi scored the first hat-trick of the 2017 TNM Super League and that also propelled his team Red Lions to be the first leaders of the log table after beating newly-promoted Blantyre United 4-1 at Zomba Community Centre on Sunday.
Kumbukani Mwambeni was the other scorer for Red Lions, who ended on position 10 last season, was while Ian Banda scored the consolation goal for the debutantes.
The Red Lions v Blantyre United game was the only one with the highest goals scored for the 10 games played over the last weekend.
Champions Kamuzu Barracks were beaten 0-1 by Mighty Be Forward Wanderers at Bingu National Stadium from a goal scored by the Nomads’ new catch Julius Kajembe while last season’s runners-up Nyasa Big Bullets started on a poor note when they drew 0-0 with newly-promoted Chitipa United and lost 0-1 to Moyale 24 hours later at Mzuzu Stadium.
Last season’s third-placed Silver Strikers went back to their base in Lilongwe with just two points following their two draws on their away assignments — 0-0 against Wizards at Mulanje Park on Saturday and 1-1 against Azam Tigers the following day at Kalulu Stadium.
Dwangwa United, who ended 12th last season, managed to beat newly-promoted Masters Security 1-0 to hold position 5 on the log table while Mafco, who were 5th last season, are on position 2 after beating 1-0 Civo Sporting Club (formerly known as Epac).
Blue Eagles drew 0-0 with Mzuni to claim 8th position while Mzuni are 9th.
