Newly promoted Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) League-A side Dream Team kept their dream of landing a national title alive after causing a major upset at the ongoing K2.6 million Brave Hearts Basketball Challenge tournament with a 70-63 beating of League A outfit Pirates at Civo Basketball Court on Sunday.

Bankrolled by Lilongwe based sister companies G.Y Imports & Exports and Dr Print, the tournament threw off on Saturday at ABC indoor court with visiting teams Mikoko from Southern Zone Bastball League (Sozobal) and Pistons from Northern Zone Basketball League (Nozobal) all eliminated at the quarterfinal stage.

Mikoko went down 48-70 against Bunda Buffaoes while Pistons lost 76-54 against tournament hosts Brave Hearts.

During the second set of quarterfinals on Sunday, Bayonets defeated fellow Cezobal opponents 80-57 before Dream Team completed the semi-final list after upsetting Pirates.

Dream Team coach Ben Chiwawa described the victory as a motivation for the newly promoted side to reach greater heights.

“Our Dream is to lift this cup and we will play our lungs out when we meet Bionets in the semi-finals to reach the final. The win over Pirates has given us confidence that we can take on any team and grab the cup,” said Chiwawa.

His counterpart Dean Lungu Junior conceded defeat and wished the Dream Team the best of luck in the tournament.

The semi-finals have been scheduled for Saturday evening at Civo court, where Brave Hearts and Bunda will meet in the other semi-final.

Should Brave Hearts and Dream Team make it to the final, the final on Sunday will be a family rivalry as both teams are sponsored by G.Y Imports & Exports and Dr Print.

Winners of the tournament will walk away with K600,000, first-runners-up K300,000 and second runners-up K200,000.
