‘Buleya unnatural death’: Preliminary autopsy on albino kidnap suspect vindicates many

Reservations by a majority of Malawians that Buleya Lule— a suspect who allegedly offered to ‘buy’ a 14-year-old Dedza boy with albinism for K800 000 last week and died in police custody Thursday—did not succumb to natural death have been vindicated by results of a preliminary autopsy which indicates foul play.

Dzamalala: Conducted the autoposy
Buleya Lule, the suspect in the abduction of the albino boy in Dedza but has died in police custody
Death in custody: Luke Buleya

An autoposy  report filed by South African Jorge Kirk revealed Buleya sustained 3 main injuries which caused his death.

Kirk was assisted by local histopathologists Charles Dzamalala and Tamiwe Tomika.

According to their report, a head injury caused by hitting pressure from a cyclindrical metal rod was experienced.

“Bleeding in the brain was observed,” the experts say in the report. “A tummy side injury was caused by electrocution.”

The electrocution is singled out as the cause of Buleya’s death.

“Injuries on buttocks is yet to be analysed,” the experts say.

Nyasa Times has learnt that the samples are expected to be flown to South Africa where comprehensive analysis is going to continue; where, after two weeks a final report will be released for action

DNA samples have been taken for further investigations on suspects who killed him in the police cell, we have also learnt

Sainess Kalekeni, step-father of missing 14-year-old Goodson Makanjira told court, that Buleya tricked them into surrendering the boy to him with an offer of K800 000.

“I was enticed by a promise that I would get K800 000. I was told that a market is already there and I would get the money instantly which is not the case,” Kalekeni said on Wednesday, before Lilongwe Principal Magistrate Viva Nyimba.

But before Buleya and others could return to court Friday to answer the case of ‘abduction with intent to murder’, he died Thursday in enigmatic circumstances.

Calls were rife through various platforms, heightened by the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) lawyer Khwima Nchizi who sought an injuction restraining anyone from burying Buleya’s body until an independent autopsy was done.

Nchizi had argued that letting the body go without the exercise would mean “losing useful information” that would lead to busting the market for albino body parts.

Meanwhile, APAM says it will proceed with a three day vigil at Kamuzu Palace from March 3 to press the government step up security for people with albinism.

Heads will either have to roll or we have all the evidence that DPP has been killing our brothers and sisters with cooperation of the police.

U mean to tell us that he was being forced to confess after denying charges in court? No that’s not the case here. The police would have done this before a plea was taken. After denying the charges there job was to prove a case against him.

This case hold the key to what is happening to our brother and sisters. Anyone hitting a fellow human being with a metal object anywhere on the head aims to kill, and not interrogate . This is not a political issue, but obviously, as a nation, we are being taken for fools, which we most definitly not. In order not to jepordise this investigation, the officer in charge of area 3 police needs to be suspended immediately and all responsible for Mr Buleyas cell. This is a straight case of intentional murder for fear of the consequences. We need answers… Read more »

This criminal deseve it. People might blame the Police for being heavy handed in intorregating this bustard. But hang on…. before pointing a finger at the police, what do you expect them to do if he was not coperating? Give him vip treatment, sit down with him on the sofa and offer him a very creamy cup of coffee and politely asking to give them the information they need? BIG NO!! The police were just trying to get information they needed to save the life of the little boy asuming he is still alive. Unfortunately shit happens, this criminal could… Read more »

So have they got the information by killing the prime suspect?????? Why killing the only person who could have helped to find the source of all this barbarism? There are ways of extracting information not by using hot iron thats primitive. Its just a cover up cos the guy could have exposed the real culprits. This issue is not for ordinary people mind you. Government with all the resources at its hand you think that if it were that they wanted to curb this barbarism they couldnt have done that?????? And this guy was supposed to be presumed until the… Read more »

So have they got the required info, is this concealing all the information?
Am saddened by the comment as far as investigation is concerned. Here we are now with some of questions; why was he killed? What information did he give to warrant him death?

The problem is that very vital information has been hidden in his death. He knew the market and deliberately they killed him to suffocate information.

That’s the problem of being dull and a cadet at the same time, it’s a bad toxic combination. They have eliminated a wrong person in the equation. The real chess masters are still out there. Buleya was just a pon.
In forensic science this is called eliminating evidence in order to bury the truth

Some biggies in DPP are behind these crimes. They brought cadets to kill this guy and police in Area 3 are well knowledgeable about all that happened. If you go and audit their paperwork, it will not say anything. Malawi needs a truthful moment. But we will not get it because you have a president who does not deserve to be a president of a progressive country. I mean this guy who could not solve the Chancellor College Freedom of Academics issue. How can he run a country. By having Peter Mutharika a president, Malawi has become such a lawless… Read more »

So basically the police at the direction of Mr Dausi (a well trained MYP security operative under the MCP regime) and Mr Mchacha (a well known DPP cadet), tortured this man (himself a DPP cadet) to death because he was going to reveal all about the DPP’s connection to these killings of people with Albinism.

This country is lost under this regime.

Ndata Albino Auction Floor

Buleya was dangerous to people with oculocutaneous albinism type 1. He deserved to be eliminated from the society. Please don’t make an issue out of this. Mob justice was needed.

I think the DNA is to help identify who killed him. Once those are know its easy to identify the people who wanted him dead because they are connected to the abductions and murders

Can we, as a nation, for once stop politicising each and every story. This senseless albino killings story will lose direction if the trend taken by APAM and opposition parties to entirely blame the DPP by either being party to the killings or for being unconcerned with it will sink in with the locals. People will vent anger on wrong suspects and the killings will go on. No one person or grouping can have a hand in all over a hundred incidents about killings, abductions and threat to life of our albino relatives. Much as i am equally let down… Read more »

Its not politicising the issue BUT indeed it has its roots deeply rooted into politics. You must try to find the genesis of this whole barbarism where it came from & why they were doing it & who were the prime beneficiaries you will find that its politicians, Uganda, DRC, TANZANIA, Mozambique, Zambia its all about Politicians trying to enhance their luck in elections. So dont say that dont politicise this issue cos its political already in its own nature. DPP is the Party in government thats why everyone is pointing fingers to its direction cos its their responsibility to… Read more »

A Malawi aona and they know these albino killings are linked to DPP. Look at the way the DPP leadership is handling this issue. How did they deal with the Anamapopa issue? What’s wrong with this? I totally disagree with you that the beating was done as a way of making the person talk. This act is very barbaric and inhuman and that’s not the way things should be done. This person was beaten to death and I am very sure he was ready to talk even without the beatings. Its high time Malawians we know what our rights are, when does such kind of torture and violence become part of interrogation? What is the job of detectives? I thought they were supposed to come up with strategies to make the person talk and not by… Read more »
