Big Bullets defender Douglas Chirambo who took a break from playing soccer late last year due to illness has has succumbed to intracranial neoplasm (brain tumour).
Chirambo has been in and out of hospital for over the past four months.
A brother to the deceased Bernard Chirambo confirmed the death in an interview with Nyasa Times on Sunday.

Bernard further said the body of the late legend Bullets star will be taken to College of Medicine.
Tributes
Meanwhile, soccer players, supporters and administrators have sent condolence messages to the bereaved family.
Civo Service United Captain Emmanuel Siyeni Zoya who played alongside late Chirambo at national duty described Chirambo as a charming and humble guy.
“I played with him , he was talented and humble man,” Zoya told Nyasa Times immediately after it was announced that the player is no more.
Silver Strikers defender Lameck Kachimanga could not hide his anger towards the soccer administrators in Malawi particularly Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for not helping Chirambo when he needed health care.
“You need us to work for you when we are fit but when we are sick, not even a single official pay us a visit. How much money would you have spent on him [Douglas] to go and get treatment guys??? You FAM, what’s your responsibility?? Am saddened by the death of Daga. Gone too soon Man. Shame..!” mourned Kachimanga through his Facbook page.
Bullets official Sankhani Mkandawire said at least K 2.5 million was required to fly Chirambo to either South Africa or India where he could have received a surgery.
Chirambo has been on and off since late last year but has died as he was being taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) from Thyolo, where he was staying with his uncle.
Meanwhile, burial arrangements for Chirambo are yet to be announced by the family.
Chirambo goes to the history of Bullets books as one of the longest serving members regarding the current squad.
May his soul rest in eternal peace!
