Malawi TNM Super League champions Big Bullets are on the verge of exorcising the ghost that has haunted them for 10 years with prospects of securing a landmark sponsorship.
Bullets chairperson Kondie Msungama confirmed the development but kept the finer details of the deal close to his chest.
“I can confirm that we have secured a sponsorship,” Msungama said in an interview with Nyasa Times.
“ Right now discussions are underway in Lilongwe with our top executive committee management team. But I can’t disclose the name of the sponsor until we finalise the deal,” added Msungama.
“We will very soon disclose the name of the sponsor,” he assured.
The development comes a month after he disclosed that the team would secure a sponsor before the forthcoming season.
The champios have joined the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Championship and will start the campaign in preliminary round on the weekend of February 13 against Fomboni Club de Moheil of Comoros island who have a Malawian player Winster Phiri formerly of Bullets bitter rivals Be Forward Wanderers.
The Bullets are making a return to continental football after 10 years.
Bullets were last sponsored by former president Dr.Bakili Muluzi before getting a rescue package from Carlsberg two seasons ago.
Bullets rivals Mighty Wanderers have also earned themselves a seasonal K70 million sponsorship from a Japanese reconditioned vehicle dealer Be Forward.
Meanwhile, Bullets have lined up a number of friendly games including against Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa. There is no confirmation from Sundowns who are also reportedly set for an invitational tournament in Congo next month.
Bullets general secretary Harold Fote said the game against Mamelodi could be played in Malawi in January.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
