Bullets line up Mozambican club friendly
Malawi champions Bullets FC have lined up a friendly match against a Mozambican club Costal De Songo and local outfit Red Lions in preparations for CAF Club Champions assignment with Fomboni FC of Comoros Island.
Bullets FC General Secretary Harold Fote confirmed the development, saying they will face the Mozambican club on February 1 at Kamuzu Stadium.
Fote disclosed that the move to engage a Mozambican club was a fallback position after Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa pulled out.
The game against Red Lions would be played on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
“With South Africa giants reportedly committed with other engagements we have roped in Red Lions and Costal De Songo of Mozambique. We will utilise these teams to prepare for our CAF Champions League,” Fote said.
He said the team was facing resistance from local clubs for friendly games in the wake of the off-season.
“Other local teams are shunning us. We approached Silver Strikers and Be Forward Wanderers but they did not respond to our request. Moyale Barracks is a good team but we felt that it will not be good to play a team which you have beaten just recently in the Super League,” he said.
Bullets face Fomboni FC during the weekend of February 13-15 in Comoros and two weeks later they will play a return leg in Malawi.
