Bullets pip Mponela as Nyerere sinks Blantyre United: Malawi TNM Super League

Rejuvenated midfielder Henry ‘Magetsi’ Kabichi claimed a brace and Douglas Chirambo scored a stunner as Big Bullets went flat-out hitting Mponela United’s net three times with the Dowa based district out-fit replying once at Kamuzu Stadium in the TNM Super League.

It was one of the slow encounters as both sides resorted into aerial ball in the first 15 minutes to the dissatisfaction of the small crowd that thronged the soccer cathedral.

Played on a bright afternoon the match was a balanced affair with goals coming as early as 8th minute when Bullets’ left back Douglas Chirambo hit the opener with a long range.

The goal seemed to have given the relegated side defence especially the left hand side where they had problems to contain man of the match Dalitso Sailesi with his deft runs that inspired the Bullets.

In one such attacks, Sailesi released a hard shot which hit the cross bar.

Bullets, which missed the services of Fischer Kondowe and Sankhani Mkandawire continued to press forward in numbers like angry bees no wonder Henry Kabichi continued his goal scoring exploits to hit a brace.

The visitors almost reduced the arrears on the dot of half time but Frazer Menyani’s connecting header from the right flank went straight into thankful hands of Vincent Gona.

Relegated Mponela showed great character with an impressive second half performance but Bullets held on to take all the three points.

In the 66th minute Fabio Kapinde was picked by Menyani on the edge of the box .Kapinde took his time, controlled the ball as if he had been rehearsing many times and drilled his shot expertly into the net.

The goal lifted Mponela and they looked dangerous every time they got a ball in the box from set-pieces.

However, Bullets supporters have all the reasons to blame their striking force as it misused a lot of scoring opportunities with Brown Mizeyi being the main culprit. He missed three clearly chances.

Mponela strikers continued to probe for goals but their efforts were being cleared by the solid Bullets defence.

In another league game in Nchalo, Victor Mpinganjira’s goal was enough to silence Blantyre United, as Mighty Wanderers, aka ‘Nyerere’ amassed maximum points.
