Big Bullets General Secretary Higger Mkandawire has sued Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and its Senior Sports Analyst Garry Chirwa for defamation following an article the paper published few weeks ago.
The paper through an article written by Chirwa claimed that Big Bullets striker Gabadinho Mhango was sold to Bloemfontein Celtic at a fee of K12 million while the club announced he was sold at K3 million.
Lawyer representing the two who is also Mighty Wanderers General Secretary David Kanyenda confirmed the development with a local radio on Thursday.
“It is true that I have written NPL as advised by my client who is demanding an apology and a compensation of K90 million” Kanyenda said.
Kanyenda said if the publication does not comply, the matter will surely be taken to court.
He said his client feel injured because the contents of the news article was not true.
Kanyenda also confirmed that his client [Mkandawire] demands the apology from Mabvuto Chibambo who also shared same sentiments that Gaba was sold at K12 million.
On January 18, 2014, Mkandawire asked Chibambo to produced evidence of his claim which he has yet not produced up to date.
“What he [Chibambo] said is very damaging. Does he have evidence to prove his sensitive allegations?” Mkandawire was quoted by the paper.
Meanwhile, NPL Sports Editor Gracian Tukula said the matter is being reviewed by the company’s lawyers.
