‘Bunch of ignorant villagers ‘ – Malawi MP Mughogho calls protesting PP officials
People’s Party (PP) Northern region has agreed not to work with Chitipa South (Nthalire) Parliamentarian, Chimango Mughogho following allegations that she has created parallel structures in the constituency.
PP supporters are also alleging that Mughogho is in the processing of creating her own database in order to rig the party’s forthcoming primary elections.
However, Mughogho who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works. expressed ignorance of the allegations in an interview and described her political opponents as a “bunch of ignorant villagers”.
PP district governor Jonathan Mukhondia said they had a meeting in the constituency over the weekend where they resolved to no longer work with the parliamentarian for bringing confusion in the party.
Mukhondia added that they are also no longer part of what Mughogho is doing in the constituency.
“We have already communicated to all party officials here to no longer work with her. The party discovered that the Parliamentarian was orchestrating the removal of some officials to replace them with her own aides.
“We feel enough is enough; no more integration, no more fresh elections. If she wants to work with the party, she should recognize those people in positions. We will not hold elections just to accommodate her aides. The party recognizes those already in positions and we expect those coming in to do the same up until elections are held,” said Mukhondia.
But Mughogho said:“They are ignorant. You know village people, they are ignorant and they jump on every issue without basis. I can’t rig elections and I can’t bypass the party that’s not procedural. I am not like that. I hold meetings to discuss constituency issues. Those people are just scared.”
This is the second time allegations have been made against Mughogho who is also being investigated by the Anti-Corruption of Bureau (ACB) following allegations that she forged and used her sister’s Malawi Schools Certificate of Education (MSCE) during 2009 general elections.
